I ran an engine lathe on night shift when I was in junior college in the 70's. Worked my way up to running 36" and 72" vertical turret lathes. Some of the castings we machined were 3, 000 pound cast iron. Later, I got in on the ground floor of numerical machining in the mid-70's. We used punched paper tape back then before computer aided machining.
