Another trick I learned when shopping for used cars is that if it has the word "Nissan" anywhere on the title, that vehicle will probably soon need a transmisson.

Number one tip to avoid buying a clunker: buy a clunker when you’re in college and spend years DIY’ing and keeping it running until you learn everything that could possibly go wrong on a car.

I used to drive used cars to auctions for a local dealer and the first thing they do is reset all fault codes without fixing anything and usually you can drive a car for a time b4 the code reappear they are all corrupt

Remember the cardinal rule of buying a used car.
The old expression 'get in it and drive it like you stole it'
Don't buy a rental vehicle.

Stocking systems are different for every dealership or dealer group… Some will simply use the last eight for every car

The stocking system for each dealership is different, and the information you provided here applies only to your dealership. I’ve worked at a couple different dealerships, and they had two completely different stocking systems.

Every used car dealership will now add a A to the stock number.

Auctions are a gamble but you can get some great cars for a good deal. Just learn how to check a car out and see if it runs properly

BS, as a former dealer, the dealer chooses whatever he/she wants to represent different ways of acquiring inventory. There isn’t a uniform, every dealer does it, way.

I'm not sure if I trust an auction vehicle or a customer trade in more. People might complain about carfax but sometimes it's nice to see how often oil changes are done. Yes I along with many do their own oil changes at home but if I had 2 similar vehicles and one shows 6 month oil changes at the dealership I'm going with that vehicle most of the time. Now if it's Jiffy Lube then we're back to square one lol.

I feel like there’s a lot of legislation to protect homebuyers but barely anything comparable to protect people buying vehicles

Just know that around 85% of used cars on a car lot, were bought from the auction.

Nowadays even car fax can’t tell you the real story of a car 😩☹️

Good reminder at the end, always get a used car inspected before buying it.

Well as people run out of money and the credit cards won't increase credit limits the cars they own are not going to get proper maintenance, it's kind of obvious that we're going to see clunkers pop up everywhere, wouldn't surprise me to see cars at auction with 40k miles and blue or white smoke coming out of the exhaust.

Think my car was a trade in that was taken to the auction in GA, and a dealer in Chicago purchased it. 2010 Honda Civic, best car ever owned.
