We hit all the topics!

THE HOMEWORK GUY TEAM (THG) HELPS CAR BUYERS TO:
1. BUY a Car from Dealers or Private Party Sellers at the Lowest Price.
2. PAY Cash or Finance with their own Bank or Credit Union.
3. DECLINE Dealer Fees and Finance Products.
4. TRADE / SELL their current vehicle for the Best Value.

For more than 40 years, dealerships have EARNED their lowly reputation by being the masters of predatory selling. Dealers stalk victims relentlessly, often ruthlessly treating the most vulnerable car buyers (like seniors, for example) with little or no conscience. Car Dealers and their Finance Officers have no problem creating financial devastation for their customers with over bloated car loans, and quite often do. We point out the traps and the flaws of the process, and help car buyers get through the nonsense without being ripped off. We promote fairness, honesty, and transparency. Join our mission!

The Homework Guy Team provides car buying consumers with information, automotive news and updates, industry outlook, buying and selling advice, and other help to level the tables. The public face of THG is Kevin Hunter and the master negotiator, Amazing Elizabeth. Tons of time and research goes into every show, with several projects always on the table, all with the goal of getting it exactly right. From Automotive News Updates to vehicle shopping advice and assistance, The Homework Guy Team is the best there is.

Buying a car is the most frustrating process ever. Car dealers are thieves trying to rob you blind. We should be able to buy a car online in 2023 and avoid the dealers completely.

I'll add a few "tricks":

1) "You have to come into the dealership for the final price."
2) "All of our car contracts include (name add on). That is not negotiable."
3) "My manager can give you the best price if you come into the dealership."
4) "Do you know what your credit score is?"
5) "We don't give OTD pricing on an e-mail."
6) "That vehicle is not available (even though it's on the website), it's presold".
7) "We're only selling cars that are allocated to us. We are not doing special orders."
8) "When can you come in?" (before they give you a price when you've asked for it).
9) "Our company policy (even if it violates the law).
10) "We're selling all of these at $X over MSRP."

The real key is to be willing to walk out the door. I have had salesmen chase out into the parking lot when I was leaving.

Last week I went to Honda Santa Fe, in NM, to service my car. The new cars had big signs with discounts of about $1, 500.
But get this: Next to the Monroney sticker, behind the tinted windows of the new cars, they also had a added a slip of paper, hand written, indicating a “Dealer adjustment” above MSRP of about $3, 000.
Ha, ha! They add an arbitrary increase of $3k and then they “lower” the price $1.5k.

My positive experience after disaster run-ins. I won't go into details of my disaster experience. It would take too long. I did research on the cost of the car I was interested in. Kia Soul. I contacted four dealers via email. I told each of the out the door price and since it was pre owned the max mileage I wanted. Alright my with the carfax report. Three said a-ok and I made an appointment to come in. I did not tell them it was a cash transaction before hand. Two were a waste of time and pissed me off. As I got up to leave after 15 minutes, both sales jerks yelled as they literally followed me out the showroom door. The third was unbelievable. When I came in the sales representative had a list for me of five cars with all the facts that I requested. I test drove without him going with me. We came back. After he met my price, we then set the trade in value. Then I met the owner and asked whether he would remove my radio since I installed it. Agreed with no charge. It was the best experience I ever had. I purchase all my vehicles at this dealer.

great content, buyers need to remember they are the BOSS, they dictate what they want, if the dealer cant provide or do addons, get up and leave

Thanks to both of you. I needed to purchase a car and found your YouTube channel earlier this week. This morning I went to a dealer with pre approved financing from a credit union. The finance guy “offered” a package of add ons. I politely said no and it saved me $2, 500. Wow. In the past I may have said yes to paint protection, lost key replacement and a few other goodies. You helped me do my homework and I saved a lot of money.

Number 4 almost happened to me years ago . Never realized it was a scam. The dealer was shocked when I gave them the car back.

Watched your video on 11 Fee’s to avoid and had to tell you about Evergreen Chevrolet in Washington. Yesterday, 7-21-23, was looking at a ZR2 Colorado on line and after the MSRP, destination fee from the factory and all the extra equipment add ons, Evergreen Chevrolet decided to put a “North West Market Adjustment Fee “ for $2999. Pretty sure this is total B S!
No other dealers around here are doing that. So sad. Thanks for the great videos.

When I negotiated the deal on my 2020 Toyota 4Runner, they finance guy said my credit was OK LOL. I had a 750 score, and that was only because I had just paid off my Mortgage 6 months before, as well as my student loan 10 months before. They didn't want to take into consideration my credit score had dropped 60 points thanks to losing an 18 year credit history (the mortgage) just dropped off a few months before. In the end I suggested it might be better to start the process over again at a different Toyota dealership like the people before me did. I reminded him that I was here to buy the car today and that I could do much better than 5.95% interest. Like magic, he said the best he could do was 3.25%. I was alright with that. BTW I have 5 more payments and I think I only paid $2200 in interest.Still got the 4Runner for a great deal.

3 days ago, I was out for a walk and walked past Paragon Honda in NYC. Thought I might as well take a look at some used vehicle prices. The window sticker read $33, 000!! For what, you ask? No, it wasn't a Pilot! It was a 2020 Accord base model with a few miles shy of 68000 miles on it. Soon as a salesman saw me reading window sticker, he ran and "gladly" mentioned that there's a discount and not to worry about that price. Not my first visit there and I guess it's better to stay away from Paragon Honda. The first ever visit to a dealership was the classic bait-n-switch they did with me. I made an appointment and arrived an hour early only to be told how the car "was sold just 10 mins ago and paperwork was in progress." The sales rep was very rude and tried to set me up for something I was not wanting, but I recalled one thing. "Walk out!" I guess had I not walked out of that place that day, I'm sure I would've been $crewed. They totally had me in their trap.
