For 23 years I thought childbirth was the worst pain I ever felt. The pain and shock of your child passing away is worse. And it never goes away.

I was shocked awake by immense pain immediately after my kidney transplant finished, but was unable to open my eyes or speak. Someone was pressing forcefully on my freshly closed sutures with an ultrasound machine to check that everything was functioning well before they sent me off to recovery. It was the absolute worst pain of my life, and I was still under enough influence of the anesthesia that I could not react to let them know I was in pain. I tried to make a noise and move, and I thought I was, but nobody seemed to react or notice. It was literally a "I have no mouth, and I must scream" moment, where I was trapped in a torturous coffin of my own body, sentient but unable to enact any will upon the world. Two weeks later, I had to have my sutures reopened to fix a collection of fluid that had begun blocking my kidney from draining, and I got to experience the pain and healing process all over again. I still have traumatic nightmares about being locked in my own mind over a decade later.

I believe everyone who says grief. I've had two unmedicated deliveries and I would rather do that once a year, every year until the day I die than face losing one of my children. It's a pain so fearful that I resist even imagining it.

I blew a disc out in my back while working at a nursing home. The pain kept getting worse through physical therapy, many medications and doctor visits. They finally did an mri about 7 months after it happened. They had me in surgery 2 days later. Dr said I was very close to becoming paralyzed from my hip down on my right side as the nerves were being suffocated at my spine. The worst part is, everyone thought I was faking the amount of pain I was in. I couldn’t sleep, walk right, drive or anything without an insane amount of pain. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone!!

The worst pain I ever felt was when my ovary ruptured and I was bleeding internally. That was worse than labor pain, child birth and kidney stones all rolled into one. I had no idea what was going on when I got to the ER, but when they asked me on a scale of 1-10 how bad it hurt, I told them 20. I wasn’t joking. I couldn’t stand up straight, the only time I wasn’t screaming in pain was when I was unconscious because the morphine or Dilauded had knocked me out (they had to keep switching back and forth because I needed constant pain meds). By the time they figured out what was wrong and were taking me into emergency surgery, I was praying to a god I don’t even believe in to let me die if they couldn’t fix it because I couldn’t stand the pain anymore. I have a very high pain tolerance, but I remember the moment it ruptured, I dropped to my knees. I still waited 7 hours to go to the ER when it became unbearable. I lost that ovary and a year later I lost the other one before it torsioned and ruptured as well. I was only 34 when I lost the second one and went through surgical menopause. It was horrible. 0 out of 5 stars, would not recommend…
