Front squat… YES OR NO?

Most people will fail with their upper body before their lower body.

So if you’re looking to get a leg workout in but your lats, arms and forearms are giving way before your legs do, it’s not the best choice.

You’re better off back squatting.

If you’re an athlete and the front squat helps with the sport you play, that’s a different story.

But if you just want jacked legs, the backs going to be a great option 💪

Front squats are great for the vastus medialis which in turn provides great support and strength to the knees. Hence it is one of the best exercises for strong, injury free knees which helps improve exercises like the back squat.

Sounds like a good reason to get better at front squats . It shows your weaknesses . And in most people it’s those thoracic extension upper back muscles . The front squat will blow up your back squat . But the back squat will never help your front squat

I agree but for me personally the upper back and legs fatigue at about the same time; it really forces you to stay very upright, I find on back squats I bend over a shit ton which puts a lot of stress on the lower back for me, and they honestly just look cooler tbh

Doing front squats with arms crossed like an X is the best way to do it, for me atleast! They are very beneficial and hit the quads more then back squat. They help you jump higher as well too

I found that implementing front squat finally got me out of my back squat plateau so they benefit greatly

Front squats are great precursors for squat cleans. Your strength in front squat will translate over into the clean. Work the form with single goblet squats or front rack dumbells. Forces you to stay vertical and build stability..

the thing is, even on back squats you aren't failing when your legs give up, actually is your lower back that fatigues way before legs especially if you are tipping over during low bar squats.
Now, if you are doing high bar with moderate reps and light weight there's nothing wrong with that but when you are approaching failure it migh still be challenging for tha cardiovascular system.
In the end all squats have pros and cons, and someone shouldn't disregard front squats because it needs upper back strenght to make it work, actually is the only squat that teaches you torso extension and it forces you to stay more upright, my upper became much stronger and now even back squats look prettier.

Front squats are superior. Go w/ the cross arm hold. That front collapsing keeps one honest and is safer.

fronts squats over back squats. I’ve back squatted since HS for sports.

I started front squatting 6 months ago and I’ve seen more quad development and carry over into all athletic movements, to include grappling and boxing.

At front squat there is more knee flexion than at the back squat. So for quads, front squats are more optimal imo. But for glutes and hip extensiors back squats are better because of the more hip flexion. It also depends on the technique like, low mid or high bar.

Back squats blow up my ass & upper thighs, are much harder to recover from, and are harder to do well and overall more likely to lead to injury. Much like how I'm stronger and less injury prone benching when I focus more on overhead pressing, I'm much stronger and less injury prone back squatting when I focus more on front squatting. You'll always be able to back squat more than you front squat so if anyone is anxious about the idea of losing strength on the back squat, just put that out of mind and work towards getting your front squat to where your back squat is currently. You'll probably see all of your lifts improve because of the unique upper body stimulus.

I train hight bar and front squat right afther as back off setts. 3x5-8 highbar, and 2x5 front squat wihtout belt.

I think what people are trying to hilight is the difference in stimulus due to where the load is placed.

Front squats force you more upright and therefore demand you to squat in a quad dominant fashion (or else lose the front rack positioning), while Back squats have a tendency to turn into “squat-mornings” when you’re nearing your max.

Easy solution fully grip the bar with your hands while doing front squat.

Both are good front and back squat, by I preferred front just to make sure I won't have a lower back injury, which back squats can do, if unfortunate happened. I mean there will be a time you unintentionally make a improper form.

I find front squat more comfortable than back squat.

Maybe people should front squat more if their upper body gives out quicker. Most real world work is picking objects infornt of the body.
Ps. This comment is more for functional perspective vs bodybuilding muscle growth

Back squats simply do not hit my thighs as front squats do. I have long femurs, i have to bend my back a lot to get balanced on back squats… so I end up overloading my glutes. Now I have a huge ass and smaller thighs - it looks weird. I am definitely gonna front squat to balance things out. Lmao.

He's not wrong but you need this when you do running and you feel launching forward. I do this with not so heavy weights after a back squat.
