When you move to Tennessee, be sure to set up those cat pillows behind you! They always make me smile.

I bought a new car because I wanted to be its sole owner, the one responsible since 0 miles for maintenance and how it's driven, and I'd know its entire history so there wouldn't be any mystery. Depreciation doesn't really matter to me because I'm going to keep it until the wheels fall off. I know people like to hate on new cars, but there are certain use cases when it is beneficial. I wish more people would recognize that.

I've had my NX for three years now. I love it. The styling even after all these years is just perfect. It's aged so well and the fit and finish are everything I imagined a Lexus to be. I've owned many Hondas and one Acura, and a Toyota Corolla, but it's Lexus for me from here on in.

I didn't buy mine new. lol
Is that Scotty's only negative...the price? Well, people spend money on things they don't need everyday and depreciation is a big consideration, but hey if 2020 has taught us anything, you only live once. But...yes, buy used.

Reduced engine response when accelerating could also be carbon build up on the valves of direct injection engines and high octane gas won't help, need to have valves cleaned by walnut blasting or other means.

Good luck trying to find a used Lexus with less than 60, 000 miles for less than 6 grand let alone 12 grand!

After I’ve been watching Scotty, other mechanic channels tend to bore me. No favoritism here, just seem to enjoy the way this man transfers information

Lexus in the UK actually won the reliability award, #1. Not bad at all.

I inherited a Lexus300S when my dad passed away February 2019. Took it to the mechanic and he said the car is perfect and offered to buy it from me on the spot. I said "not for a million".

In my area the used market is very small. In fact I had a guy drive up from Maryland to buy a 15-year-old Corolla for $1, 300 bucks. When you go looking for a used Corolla or Camry there are very few 4 and 5-year-old models out there because everybody keeps them and drives them to death. If you look at the numbers the capital cost of a car, which means how much you pay just to buy the thing and have it around, works out to about $2, 000 a year. The depreciation on Hondas and Toyotas and Subarus is about $2, 000 a year. So if you buy a 5-year-old Toyota, which is very hard to do, you will get 5 to 7 years out of it before it rusts out. So you spend 10K and get 5 to 7 years or you can spend 20k and get 10 to 14 years. That's called straight line depreciation. Looking for a used car in these conditions is a waste of time. It doesn't really save you money and it just puts you into the tail end of the ownership of the car where you will have more problems to deal with. In my view Scotty's advice is relevant to people in Sunbelt States in large urban areas where the used market is fairly vigorous. But once you get out into areas where the total population is about a million or less you might as well forget about it and buy yourself a new car. I suppose you could go to Boston or New York or some big urban area and look for a used car but now you're talking about adding hotel and restaurant meal cost s to the aggravation of looking for a car. It's not a game that is easy to win. In addition to all these considerations in New York the DMV sales tax policy basically favors the dealers.

The sales tax alone makes buying a new car distasteful to me. Better to get a 3yo with under 40K miles and some warranty remaining.
