Find a good local marque specialist and don't skimp on maintenance and choose carefully. There's a lot of satisfaction to be had from a well engineered car like a used Mercedes, like the solid clunk of the doors, appreciating the thoughtfulness of the interior features and way it drives, feels quality and safe without being flashy.

In past, I've owned a Camry and a BMW. Without a doubt, you are 100% correct in stating the positives and negatives. Now, since money is no longer a big problem, the sheer fun of driving a BMW is the way I go. You only live once. Why not have some fun before your time is up?

I bought a used 2007 Mercedes GL450 in 2010. Every time I go to the dealership for expensive services, they always have to fix something and I have to pay extra because extended warranty doesn’t cover them for some reason. Check engine lights still comes and goes after services. I got fed up. So I do maintenance and repair myself with help of YouTube videos. I still own the SUV and never had any major issues. I saved myself a fortune.

I see tons of used luxury cars in apartment parking lots, and I see tons of old Toyota's in wealthy neighborhoods...

one of my favorite videos, it all really supports my explanation when talking to my friends about luxury cars (i’m 24).

i’ll always take driving in luxury with the responsibility of maintenance, over driving with little to no issues but feeling uninspired everyday.

A LOT of ppl get luxury branded cars just to try and impress strangers. I know quite a few ppl that drive a Mercedes or BMW, but can’t afford their rent. 😂🤦🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

Toyota makes the best and the most reliable luxury cars, German cars (all brands) are just piles of unreliable Junk, btw i'm a 26 yo master mechanic

You will not get a better driving experience than a straight 6 BMW. Maintain and look after the car usual maintenance and for the money you have a car that is superb. I am from the UK owned my E90 3 litre M Sport diesel for ten years bought after the 3 years depreciation hit of the first owner. Best car I have ever owned and still looks great. Can afford easily to get a significantly newer version but I really am attached to the car. Ultimate Driving Machine - well noticed in North America it’s Lexus and Toyota that prevail for the reliability and hold their value better but realise we all have one life ....best to live it to the max...it’s no rehearsal 😀

I feel like for 15k more, rather than a used Lux car, just buy new. But never, ever, lease. A complete wast of money.

To each his/her own. I have a Camry in the stable right now (I drove for a while now adult daughter drives it), have a BMW & an Audi in the stable as well. Have owned Hondas, have owned a Toyota truck, have owned cars & trucks from each of the 'big-3' American manufacturers. To each his/her own but to me nothing compares to a fine German looks, interior aroma, interior styling class, handling, everything. That is worth an awful lot in my weighted factor system.

In addition to the above, basically can't get a deal on a lot of used Toyota / Lexus products, so if the topic is buying a used vehicle it often makes no sense buying a used Toyota / Lexus. Case in point: A few years ago I was interested in getting a used Tacoma. After research it made zero sense to go used as the price difference between a brand new off the lot one vs a 2-3 year old one (with commensurate miles on them) was essentially nothing (maybe $3k or so).

People can tout Toyota's reliability but most of their stuff (like the Camry) many of us find utterly boring & if a vehicle doesn't trip your trigger then it's not the right answer (unless you don't care / just need a commuter).

Good call. Driver enjoyment is high priority for me. I think I did good in buying a lightly used MB. I paid 15% of original cost and car still has 60% life left.

used cars these days are so expensive that it's better to buy brand new... unless you are buying 20 years old 5k car

I have a Camry. They are amazingly reliable. I want a second car, but a fun, weekend play thing. I'm considering a Mercedes Benz SLK 350. For a Mercedes, the reviews seem to show it to be reliable.

Totally agree.
Why should I buy a used BMW or Mercedes when I can get a brand new Camry.
Camry is a real bless along with Honda accord especially those made starting from 2018. Strong, reliable, fuel economy and cheap maintenance even though used. They never lose value or depreciate that fast.

I’ll say my 12 year old Lexus feels better than a brand new Camry I test drove in the showroom (smoother and more powerful). And yes, I know a few things about cars and have a basic OBD2 in the glove box.

Warranty on any used luxury car is essential. Otherwise, a deal breaker, IMO. If part of the purchase price is a warranty, it's well worth it.

Used luxury cars. Poor reliability, high cost of maintenance. . Lexus are exceptions.

I bought a 08 Acura TSX In November, 2020. It’s now basically almost April 2021, I put 10k miles since buying it and I put in $600 on maintenance on the vehicle. There was some leftover maintenance from the previous owner thus why slightly pricey but this car has been reliable, 10k miles in only 5 months, I hella driven this car already and it’s in good mechanical condition, I should say buy a luxury car from Acura or Lexus cause the overall reliability is far far far better then anything European and you still get luxury just maybe not all the gizmos of a Euro car
