Every designer should study marketing. How would a designer help a client to leverage his business if the designer doesn't have any knowledge in marketing? I've seen lots of designers saying to their client "this will attract more customers", "Your customers like this!", "Your customers will buy your product if you'll choose this design" they don't even know how to craft a simple psychographic, demographic, brand attributes, value proposition, etc. How do they even know that the design will work if they don't know those things? Designers are bullshit! The reason why Chris succeeded in this industry is that he knows how to market and he knows what will work for his clients.

I wouldn't try to "convince" customers, but rather guide them in making the right decision themselves, most of the times customers are confused! They have too many offers to choose from, they already have their problems to solve. Our job is to give them assurance 😄

The Win Without Pitching Manifesto tells us to rethink the selling process. Instead of persuading clients the designer is to provide the next step. If the question here is "how do I sell the design to the design naive client?", the thing to do is review the steps that both of you have done to lead to the design. Then reveal the design. If the process is sound everything should make sense.

It's all true, and well said! But it's circumventing a very legitimate concern: You might know how to achieve the client's goals, but they don't trust your innovative solutions. To reference Henry Ford: they want a faster horse, not a car.

My client and I reach the realisation stage every time we have a meeting, but they would always come back to square one after meeting with others and would ask to only work on a certain bit for the product. What would be your advice on this?
