STRENGTH SIDE PRODUCTS

Barefoot and minimalist shoes are trending, but can they truly fix your feet? In this video, Trevor shares exercises to strengthen and bulletproof your feet using balance, bouncing, and flexibility. Balance builds foot, shin, and arch strength. Bouncing, like jump roping or running, trains springy connective tissues. Walking on natural surfaces and basic stretches restore flexibility and dexterity.

I have extreme injuries to my feet with multiple surgeries resulting in numbness, nerve damage, and extremely limited mobility. Switching to barefoot shoes and doing all the things mentioned in this video over the past few years have changed my life. One thing he forgot to mention is that it HURTS. Building calluses while fundamentally changing the way your feet move is so painful, but in the end it saves you more pain than it causes. Thanks for this video.

Some in the comments are clearly missing the point- Trevor’s not saying barefoot shoes don’t contribute, but that they’re PART of the equation. It isn’t a magic potion fix like it’s being marketed as by some. You should combine it with other strats as he showed here. Stop falling for charlatans’ PR, use your brains & try listening to learn & understanding 🤦🏾‍♂️

The boulder boot has been my main footwear for 2 years - phenomenal shoe. I also have boulder boot summit for outdoor activities, bad weather, etc. I even bought my mom a pair of the laguna slip-ons and those are her go-to everyday shoe now. I've been wearing barefoot shoes exclusively for 4 years - I used to have pain in my feet but that went away after I switched. It definitely took some adjusting though - you have to learn to walk/run differently and always make contact w/the ball of your foot (no heel striking). I feel like that adjustment makes you more agile and balanced (as well as protecting from banging your joints) so it's a win/win.

Lems and Strengthside! I love it when YouTubers plug a product that I KNOW they already use and love.

I have flat feet and would often get shin splints, ankle and foot pain. I managed to partially tear my Achilles a few months ago, so am getting back into harder workouts again, with a big focus on the feet to create strength, support and stability. I've been considering barefoot shoes for years, but never knew where/how to start..! This was super helpful, thank you so much for this video!! Merry new year! :)

I've had Xero, Lems, and Vivobarefoot. Vivobarefoot is my favorite of these, as they have put up with the most abuse as trail shoes and everyday shoes, including working both at stages and outdoors on set for tweleve to sixteen hours. To preserve shoes I recommend getting cedar boxing glove deodorizer inserts. They absorb moisture and kill bacteria.

Congratulations Trevor! Although in some ways it seems a bit silly (because I'm just a YouTube subscriber) but it's so nice seeing the Hash family grow. The kiddies, now Trevor getting married, wishing you all the best 👍

I cant explain how, but when I was 8 I could run anywhere on barefoot, my mother used to say I was born with sandals on my feet, because stones seemingly didnt hurt me. I started wearing shoes because bare feet was a bit weird in school. I have never come close to that feeling ever since.

Gotta say, Vibram five finger toes are levels above your standard wide toe “barefoot” shoe. I liken traditional shoes to tight hand mittens; barefoot shoes to loose fitting, thin mittens and vibram five finger shoes are like thin gloves on your hands. These shoes allow your feet and toes to really move, and they keep your toes seperated

Been wearing my Boulder Boots for about 3 years too and just got their Chelsea boots last year. Love 'em too for work and hiking.

I grew up in the Caribbean wearing mostly no shoes or shoes that were flat because the terrain was steep and rocky and so you had to feel the ground beneath your feet. So moving to a warm place on the Big Island, I gravitated to shoes with thin soles where I could still sense the ground. Then I moved to a cold place on the Big Island, and all the shoes seemed to have pillows and marshmallows for soles. Then I discovered barefoot shoes which already had five pairs of, but I never really thought of them like that. I never got them to “fix” some problem. I just wanted to be barefoot. So Merrill zero-drops were my first. Xero was my next because I work in court and needed ballet flats. Then I got Xero slippers. Those are my go-tos, but my feet are fine. I just want to be barefoot as I can as it’s 20 degrees here tonight! Don’t know if it matters, but I’m 61. Being mostly barefoot my whole life, I have nothing to fix, no comparisons to make. Also got Steger Mukluks because, again, it’s cold here. Not barefoot but they are zero-drop — insanely expensive, but kind of a life-time investment if you live where it’s dropping below zero.

I have yet to do barefoot walks in nature. I have only tried it a limited number of times. But i love staying barefoot or in socks indoors. This helps relax my feet, although being a flat surface it does not bring the same benefits as an outdoors walk

If you guys are near LA, I hope you are both alright in light of the devastating fires.

I never used bf shoes, but I do a lot of barefoot training outdoors, like running, primal flows, yoga, etc and it definitely helped me with balance, strength, and aligning my body for "better posture"

I'd say you can forgo the bf shoes if you already do a lot of barefoot work. They can be a useful tool in your arsenal, but by themselves they're not going to give you the full experience you'd get from adding other factors.

yup. when I swapped to barefoot shoes, I made a ton of prep beforehand and a ton of work to adjust to it. I won't get into detail (because that would be repeating most of this video's content) but the idea is to strengthen the muscles that were 'lost' to having the wrong shoes

Great video. I totally agree about barefoot shoes. I am a fan but they are not the end all be all. In terms of walking on a bar or putting lots of load or too many reps while squatting down on your toes: please listen to your body and do not push too far in the direction of pain. Use discomfort as information and focus on the moves that soothe the discomfort. Do not feel bad if your foot is limited on what it can do at first. It will get there eventually, don't rush it but keep at it. It took me a very long time (a year essentially) to walk on a bar without discomfort. And I had to back off the bar entirely for months and do other moves that felt better. So please take your time and listen to your feet. Do fight for your foot freedom! it will pay back your whole body 💪💓
