My PT advised me to walk barefoot in the forest after my knee surgery. I did ! (And it really helped).

Minimalist shoes are great but I would STRONGLY advise, from well over a decade's experience, to walk before you run in them. Long pain-free walks before any running. Your Achilles tendons will thank you.

7 years into wearing barefoot shoes, lots of walking in nature, 5 years into regular yoga - coming from completely flat feet as a kid and teenager, I now have an actual arch there! And it's getting stronger, more mobile and less painful continuously. I'll keep walking that path.

I train squats/deadlifts barefoot in the gym. Helps massively with stability and overall foot strength. No need to wear shoes

I'm so glad we are in a barefoot era. My toddler is frequently barefoot and I just get positive responses from strangers!

I’ve had some brutal toe injuries from going barefoot. I’ve broken toes more than once, and stubbed one toe so badly that the skin was dissected from under the toenail 1cm deep. The really awful bit was having to scrape out the sand that was in the wound. 😭

We wear shoes for a reason! Go barefoot when you can, but please be careful.

I know this will bother, but, I would do it if I was sure I could.
I live in a little town in Italy and, usually, you'll find broken glasses wherever you go.
So it doesn't matter if you are walking on mountains or on the beach...
I wouldn't feel happy finding glasses or even blood on my skin.
So, I advise to do this only if you are 100% sure you wouldn't risk bleeding.

Pick up paper that is perfectly flat on the floor, with your toes. If that’s too hard, try it with a towel.

Now do the following with the grasped paper or towel (rags also work): While still grasping it with your toes, lift it waste high on each leg, ten times. Then practice lifting the object towards your groin, a ten count on each leg.

I got my feet back this way!

I love walking on the sand at the beach! My feet feel so good afterwards.

100%. I wore barefoot shoes for a year with minimal improvement. Then I started walking on grass everywhere I went. If there was a walking trail, I’d walk beside it on the grass. I immediately noticed my toes and ankles being way more engaged when walking on grass, which is usually fairly bumpy. After a few months of this, I noticed a huge improvement in my foot health.

I like how you skillfully ended the short so it transitions smoothly back to the beginning. Clever and thanks for the reminder to go barefoot and stop buying useless crap.

Makes sense! I have sensitivity issues, so I preferred tight small shoes as a kid to avoid the feeling of looseness. Putting my feet in a cast for 8 hours everyday has not given me a great foot shape

However, because of the sensitivity issues, I hate wearing socks and shoes when relaxing. I thought it was because of ankle circulation but now that I’m paying attention, I’ve noticed I move my toes a lot. Can spread them wide easily. My mother commented on it because she can barely move her pinky toe at all. I thought maybe this was unique to me, but actually it’s just because I never stopped moving them

Wearing bare foot shoes have given my toes the space to wiggle without feeling like the shoes are gonna fly off at any moment. Having more space isn’t going to fix my foot shape, but it also won’t make it worse. As in, You’re not fighting your shoes for progress. 👍

Been wearing wide toe shoes for about 2 years regularly, just recently bought my first pair of barefoot shoes and I wear them practically every day. My toe spread is so much better (I don’t use spacers or anything fancy) my back pain which I had for years is basically gone, and I feel way more stable! Yoga, running, and cycling helps too

So true. I had a tendon in my ankle repaired. I decided that if I was going to put myself through that then I wasn't going to mess around with bad shoes for regular wear. Other than fancy shoes for a few hours every now and then, I have only worn barefoot type shoes since my surgery. My unaffected foot has been totally fine. No negative side effects from switching. But my surgical foot has had a whole host of problems. A ripple effect from the surgery. Wearing barefoot shoes for a year (minus the times I was non weight bearing) hasn't magically corrected the arch that collapsed or resolved my new TTS or sped up healing my Achilles injury and tightness. I still have to put in the work to specifically strengthen all these little spots and it sucks. (I felt comfortable switching cold turkey since I'm home most of the time and therefore was already barefoot most of the time anyway. My husband has needed more transition time for barefoot shoes.)

Please be careful out there. Both natural and urban settings have sharp and dangerous things that can cut your feet and give you an infection. Barefoot is good and feels great at the same time, please be careful.

after being a fan for two years, watching and benefitting from all of your guys' absolutely genuine and humble and loving helpful videos, i finally hit subscribe just now, because this was a particularly relevant topic to me. secondly because you actually showed in video examples of how to "challenge the feet" stepping on pullup bar or rocky surfaces. Thanks for the quality information!

Nice loop! Also a friend gave me a little tip… stand on one leg while brushing your teeth. That way you get a little balance time in each day! 👍🏽😄

So true. I walk in barefoot shoes to the astroturf field where I work out - then take them off. 👍 But I still need to figure out how/where to get onto surfaces that are much more unflat with my balance work.

I went barefoot shoe years ago and love it. I have small fiber neropathy - parts of my feet would go numb during walks or runs. Now I feel everything and it is absolutely wonderful. For the winter (cold makes my feet go numb too) I wear noboso insoles. Insoles with little sensory bumps. The first time I put those in and spent a day at work- I noticed my feet did not loose sensation all day long. My feet are the strongest they have ever been - the rest of my body however needs lots of work.
