If you’re reading this before getting your wisdom teeth removed the best thing you can do is over prepare for it.
For anyone reading this, I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed on 28th March 2023. I had them all extracted no surgery only numbing needles.
Also the top things you should buy or have are as follows;PAIN KILLERS AND ANTIBIOTICS - Ice packs, scarf or something to hold the ice packs to your face comfortably so you don’t have to hold them yourself- cold soft food and salt for saltwater rinse. Paper-towels.
Here’s my personal advice written as best as possible.
1. First day, keep your gauze in for at least 30minutes to an hour, when removed if still bleeding replace gauze for a further hour or until no longer bleeding much. (You will still taste blood it doesn’t mean that it’s not formed a clot yet a small bit of blood and lots of saliva is normal for first few days. do not rinse your mouth at all and try not to eat at all if possible for your first day (if very hungry try to have something semi cold, like yogurt or custard or pudding etc. drink water by letting it pour into your mouth (very small mouthfuls) and let it go to back of your throat and then swallow. BEST THING I CAN SAY ESPECIALLY FOR THE FIRST DAY IS TO SLEEP! Set up your bed comfortably in a way that you will sitting/laying in a more upright position and with pain killers etc just sleep as much as you possibly can it becomes very hard when pain kicks in.

2. The pain will be bad and possibly even excruciating for at least the first 3-4 days. If your pain is very bad and last longer than 5-6 days call or see your dentist/doctor.

3.it’s normal that can’t open your mouth much or close your mouth properly, this will improve after day 5-6 in my case.

4. Warm salt water rinse after every time you eat or if pain feels very bad (don’t swish-just tip your head side to side and then don’t spit just let it run out of your mouth) paper towels are your best friend (you can use them to carefully wipe extra saliva etc off your tongue.

5. Just eat food that is comfortable for you, you can eat very cold food but don’t eat hot food as this can hurt and also dissolve your clot. Don’t drink from a straw, don’t spit, don’t smoke anything for at least 3-4 days. If smoking after that time do a salt water rinse after every time you smoke. Don’t eat or drink foods that are too acids such as lemons, sauces ketchup etc and if you didn’t already know research WHAT IS DRY SOCKET AND HOW DO I PREVENT IT

6. Ice packs on side of your cheeks/face for at least for 30 minutes on 30 minutes off for the first few days and then a few times a day after that until swelling is feeling a lot better (I used to sleep with ice packs wrapped in a soft scarf tied around my face softly overnight because it was such a relief.

7. I was able to semi brush my teeth after the 3rd day. Brush your teeth carefully, front focusing and on sides (not on or over or too close to extraction sites) with a pinky finger nail amount of toothpaste and use the salt water rinse to rinse toothpaste out (don’t forget to brush your tongue) keeping the mouth clean is essential to the healing process and if you can’t brush yet just do your best and stay on top of the warm salt water rinses.

FINALLY A FEW LAST THINGS I WANT TO LEAVE YOU WITH;
It will get better I promise, look after yourself, rest up, follow dentist instructions, pain may be gone one day and back the next, ice pack again and rest and use pain killers for first few days and sparingly after that (ALSO MAKE SURE you drink plenty of water and stay hydrated as painkillers or pain meds can also cause constipation which isn’t nice to have on top of wisdom teeth removal) find a smoothie with fibre in it (like green smoothies) they will help you go to the toilet).

Thank you and I wish everyone the best of luck and hope my words help at least one person through this tough time) good luck! 😊

It took my dentist 45 minuets to get one of my teeth out, just constant pulling and pushing on my tooth and mouth now it’s hurting like hell 😖 But I know when it’s healed I will feel much happier and nicer as the tooth was bad.

Got out all 4 wisdom teeth out, and it went pretty well. I am very nervous with iv/needles. It was nothing to small pinch when the IV went it. Like 20 seconds later I felt like I wanted to close my eyes and when I woke up I was done. To be honest it feels like right before you go to sleep on your phone getting a little tired and to closed ur eyes for a sec.

I just got my tooth pulled this morning. Everything you're saying is exactly what is written in my aftercare paper. Idk why but I feel less anxious when shown a video instead a paper.

I had the wisdom tooth and the one pushing it removed 12+ hrs ago, although impacted it only took about 15 minutes. My dentist is that good, I only felt the pressure of him trying to pry it out but it wasn't painful at all.

I waited 2 hours instead of one to remove gauze because I was driving to different pharmacies for my prescription and didn't want to stick my fingers in my mouth that I couldn't thoroughly clean, I don't know if that was a mistake but I seem fine.

12 hrs later the swelling is completely gone, no pain, no further bleeding, was able to eat warm mashed potatoes and gravy, applesauce and yogurt. Be careful to get yogurt with no fruit bits because they contain small seeds, you don't want those stuck in what's trying to heal.

Talk with your dentist, ask all questions, be sure you are comfortable with his/her way of working. I used to be deathly afraid of going to see any dentist due to past horrible experiences, but with my new dentist I look forward to forming a good patient relationship with him and have check ups every 6 months from now on.

I got 4 of mine removed yesterday morning (about 36 hours ago). I’m
37 years old. I was going to get deep sedation, but my allergies caused it not to be able to occur due to risks. I opted for an option to be awake instead😂 It went amazingly!! No pain at all during the process. In 40 mins I had the extractions done and was being helped to the vehicle.

It has been smooth sailing so far. The first day I completely rested, stayed hydrated, made sure I stopped the bleeding from the sites. I waited a few hours and ate some cold sorbet, followed by a healthy smoothie, and ended the evening with some blended organic grits for some heartiness. Today I was able to gently brush, eat homemade sourdough pancakes and a smoothie for breakfast, and overnight oats for lunch. For dinner I plan to have some split pea soup.

I have just a slight bit of discomfort and minor swelling. I’ve stayed on top of anti inflammatories and antibiotics, and ensuring I am well hydrated.

If this 37 year old dude can do it you can! We overreact tremendously with how we believe it’ll go. Find a great surgeon and just follow the before and aftercare instructions. Everything that I’ve read mentions that dry socket is greatly prevented just by following tips such as those in this video 🦾🦾😎

**Day 10 update- Everything went great. I’m back eating most of what I was eating before. The healing has been good and I was back bouncing around at work from the 3rd day on. Just wanted to drop in and give an update🦾🦾

I've been terrified of the dentist for years and I've needed to get several teeth out but been too afraid. Well the infection kept coming back so I had no choice and just had them removed today and I'm so happy and hopeful for a speedy recovery 🙏 my dentist was amazing and they made me feel so comfortable.

Got my 2 lowers out today! Instead of IV sedation, I did laughing gas. I loved it. I heard what was happening but too out of it to care, no pain during either. Wish I wouldn’t have waited 2 years for this but it’s over now :)

I got two of them removed 2 days ago ! It was the left side only. It took 1hr 30 mins and they just numb me, I was listening to music the entire procedure. Had a little pain and got 3 injections so far ( antibiotic and 2 for inflammation) + 2 pills.I ate from the first day as I had one side free and today on my 3rd day I’m feeling better, it is a little swollen but hopefully I can go back to working out on Monday or Tuesday! (Light work out). Good luck everyone

Had mine removed 4 days ago, great experience so far. Procedure lasted for a little more than an hour, and I was back on my feet at work for the next day. Hardly any pain, just a bit tender in the extraction sites. Very minimal swelling too! But then again I have a round face already so maybe the swelling wasn’t super noticeable lol. The only thing that’s been sucky has been the good situation!! I’m not a fan of sweet foods and I keep on getting recommended yoghurt, ice cream, pudding, etc. I want something savory!! With substance!! No more soups or creams, I need recipes!! If anyone knows any bussin post-surgery safe recipes please drop them!!

Just had all 4 today. Took over 2 hours. My roots are long and curl so two of them needed to be cracked to get them out. So far it’s been a miserable experience…

I was petrified of this surgery. I actually put it off for an extra month because I was scared. But I am so surprised by how easy it went! I was in and out of the office in 20 minutes. The first 3 days I iced it on and off and only drink water, ate mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese and pudding. I didn't take the heavy pain meds they gave me. Just the ibuprofen and antibiotics. On the 4th and 5th day I used a heating pad on my face and that helped sooo much. By the 6th and 7th day I was basically back to normal. I'm on the 8th day now and only watching these videos again to make sure I'll be ok to start using straws again without fear of dry socket lol. Id say say 4 was the worst for me. Lots of throbbing pain and I couldn't sleep and I was starting to worry it was getting infected or I was doing something wrong. But once by the next morning I felt way better. Do lots of salt water rinses and use an alcohol free mouth wash every morning and every night before bed. (No swishing! Even 8 days post op I still don't swish.) You will be fine and you got this!
