This simple but powerful modeling technique, which you might call the "double subdiv method" is great for quickly creating base meshes. It allows you to be creative, and automatically gives you quad topology.

another way i like is doing this but with a bevel modifier instead of the simple sub div. but better for hard surface, less so for organic/smooth shapes

Man, and there I was thinking simple subdivision wasn't useful for much! I knew it had to be useful somehow for it to even be implemented!

I'm always using this exact technique- it's handy when it comes to precision. But it's pain in a*s to create very detailed sculpture this way. so it's only for base meshes/simple objects.

Can you please make a detailed video on this topic? I'd love to see modeling tips and tricks, especially for more detailed modeling work. It would be super helpful! #fulllengthvideo

I figured it out, but you probably should have told the audience why you used both version of the sub-d modifier.

This is how I felt originally with just subdiv. But over time it became to clay-ish. Making crevices filled and chunky. Misinterpreting my design constantly.
Making it thin where it's thick and thick where it's thin.
