I'm a violinist and it really depends on how much you practice. It also depends on whether you are a lefty or a righty. It's easier as a lefty, because you have better control over your wrist and finger. It took me about 6-12 months. Also, I have been playing for six years and vibrato does not take that long to learn, but again, it depends on the violinist, and how much they commit and practice

it took me almost three years before my vibrato clicked. i couldn’t tell you why, it just happened, and now it’s my favorite part of my playing. don’t rush it.

I learned it after my third lesson. It took about 3 days till it worked. I’m playing violin for a little less than 1 and a half years now and I’m probably going to start with Paganini in half a year or so. I’m thankful that I have the possibility to play this wonderful instrument that felt like I always played it from the first week.

I learned vibrato in 6 months when I was 7- here’s my advice: for wrist vibrato, put a round object between your wrist and the violin while you’re practicing so you wrist gets used to hearing position. For arm vibrato, start at a slower tempo and the “vibrato” should sound like two notes just repeating over and over again. Keep increasing the tempo until you have actual vibrato :)
