Learn how to stay in better posture throughout your swing and strike it pure.

Jim Roy is a former PGA and Champions Tour player. Jim comes to us today from Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse New York to talk to us about how to stay in posture.

Jim covers what it means to stay in posture, and shows us exactly how to do it. You'll see how to maintain the correct spine angle, as well as flaws and mistakes to avoid.

You'll also see a simple golf posture drill you can use to create a feel for what it's like to stay in posture and get pure contact with your irons and your wedges.

You'll also get a few swing thoughts that can help you maintain that correct spine angle.

Of the six to eight "early extension" videos I've watched, yours was easily the most helpful. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks.

When you said you were a former PGA Tour player I perked up and became all ears :)
Nice video. The split screen is very nice. The image that helps me most to stay in posture is the one Jack talks about in his game. Jack said he imagines a spike entering the top of his head, exiting at base of his spine and into the ground. He then tries to turn around that spike with a steady head.

Hey Jim! Great video. I'm formerly CNY PGA and TOY for CNY. Down in MD now. I've encountered this far too often in my clientele and I believe it's coming from other teachers pushing ground force and engaging glutes, etc. It creates the hip thrust towards the ball and "popping up" out of the shot. I've found the only true way to get players out of this is the head against the door frame drill. They don't seem to associate too well with their hind end against a wall. I have them practice literally every day at home making practice swings without a club with their head against a door frame. Immediately they say it doesn't feel one bit like their golf swing. Many say they cramp because they're not used to their obliques being crunched so much. Aside from someone grabbing their hair while swinging a club I'd like your thoughts on doing this with club in hand. For me personally, thinking of holding the left shoulder back as long as possible while the left hip clears gives immediate video evidence that spine angle is preserved. Most people have no concept of "covering the ball" longer and for me this achieves that very thing. TIA and keep up the good work!

Thank you for the 3 swing thought choices. Sometimes you just need to find what resonates. Love the belt buckle move. Keep me coming.

Fantastic feels for doing this, my MAIN fault in the golf motion. Thank you!

This was very helpful and I caught this fault in my swing looking at videos of it and noticing the change of plane in my shoulders during the early part of the downswing. I really like how you gave multiple swing thoughts and exercises to help cure the same fault. Subscribed.

Great video showing the importance of good posture throughout the golf swing....Presently very logically. The split screen really helps here! Thanks!

Thank you Mr Roy, swing thought of head against the wall worked for me, it’s creates space to swing more freely … 😁😁😁

Hi Jim, this is the best video i have watched in order to stop my early extension. Of the three feelings you described i found the one where you feel like your head is stuck up against a wall and to leave it there. It works a treat for me .I've actually gone two rounds now with out too many weird mishits and struck the ball really nice 90% of the time . Hopefully i can get my handicap back down from from 8 to 4 which is what it was 3 years ago. Again thank you very much

Enjoy your tips. Do you have a video compressing iron shots? I can't take a divot as I hit behind the ball. Thanks

The belt buckle thought worked great; can't believe how much harder I am hitting the ball when keeping my posture.

Playing off 9 handicap last year shooting rounds in high 70s to low 80s last few months been using this tip and been shooting consistent low to mid 70s with 2 x level par rounds, not played any competitive games yet but hoping for good things, has totally stopped me topping and thinning shots!
