Nina Teicholz joins me on The Doctor’s Farmacy to pinpoint some of the current research in reversing Type II Diabetes through diet, and the importance of maintaining low blood sugar for optimal health.

Nina Teicholz is a science journalist and author of the New York Times bestseller, The Big Fat Surprise, which upended the conventional wisdom on dietary fat—especially saturated fat—and spurred a new conversation about whether these fats in fact cause heart disease. She is also the founder of the Nutrition Coalition, a non-profit working to ensure that government nutrition policy is transparent and evidence-based—work for which she’s been asked to testify before the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Canadian Senate.

I reversed my type 2 diabetes with a low carb/keto diet. It has been 11 years! It takes self control, but it really does work.

#DrMarkHyman please, please include a link to get the full episode when you post these "teaser" videos. I've looked in your Doctor's Farmacy playlist each time I watch your introductory videos and, most times, am unable to find the full episode. TIA

I've heard contradictory reports to what she's saying so not sure who to believe. I've heard that sat fats leads to your body's inability to properly reduce blood sugar levels. So in a normal person with a healthy system, they eat sugar or some type of glycemic spiking food, your body reacts by producing insulin, then that insulin takes the sugar in your blood and puts it into the cell.

If you have excess fat clogging up your cells it prevents that inserting mechanism from happening. So your blood sugar spikes, and then insulin is unable to do it's job because of excess fat. In a healthy person, spiking blood sugar might not be ideal, but your body can manage it. If that were the case, the goal would be to worry less about the glycemic load, and more about your body's mechanism for taking sugar out of the blood and into the cells, which has more to do with excess fat and sat fat consumption.

Seems like focusing on the spiking part of the equation is ignoring the primary issue, which would be fat

Poor COVID outcomes and poor glycaemic control - such an obvious association if you think about it.

Does reversing means a person cannot have diabetes with a healthy life style..
If so.... Then y doesn’t the doctor regard him/ her as a non diabetic if his/ her a1c shows normal
Thx
