Local church/ synagogue/animal shelters/hospice organizations often have associated ‘thrift’ shops…I love feeling like I am supporting the cause!

We have a handful of local thrift stores and they’re often picked over by resellers (I live in the metro Atlanta area)… BUT, i got in the habit of swinging into some of the shops for just a second if I was driving by. It takes like 15 mins to peek for specific items if you’re looking for something, which is like hitting two red lights lol. Not enough to really matter.

This is the method that scored me a huge, gorgeous, mid-century oak desk— complete with the legs that are usually missing— for only (drumroll please)… SEVEN BUCKS!! Yes— $7!!! It just needed a good scrub, but was otherwise in incredible condition. I googled the maker’s mark on the inside and even in crappy shape they’re going for $2000+!!

Definitely talk with the folks who work at the shops… I found out that even when new shipments/donations come in, they sit in the back of many local shops until a specific day when they tag them and put them on the floor. My son snagged some limited edition Nikes for $9 that were selling online for $500+, we found a cashmere and silk sweater for my daughter for church for $2 (retails for $200), coach purses for $15-$30, so so so many other killer deals!

We even found a DVD player and other electronics for 99¢ during Goodwill’s 99¢ Mondays! It’s SO WORTH IT to find out the days that things hit the floor and the days prices are slashed!

There’s a Thrift store in a town near me, that everything sold there goes to help local people in the community pay their utilities, etc. in fact I gonna donate all of my late wife’s clothes to them. She also bought a lot of her clothes there in the past.

I stopped going to Goodwill. They have marked their prices higher than Dollar Tree. That's on used Dollar Tree items.
Especially when most people just drop their items off and leave. I know I used to all the time. I stopped and just give whatever I have away now.
I live in a small town. There's a couple of tiny thift stores. The prices are high.
Thanks for sharing great tips. May you have a Blessed day.

In Crossville, TN, we have multiple thrift stores. My favorite is Threads of Hope because they sponsor House of Hope, a home for kids in crisis.

Backporch Treasures is a great thrift store. Their volunteer staff are so kind and wonderful and they have amazing deals. I've gotten great deals there. I happened to go there yesterday as well when they had their big sale. So glad you checked it out and gave them a shout-out.

It really does help if you have an idea of what you’re looking for then you can focus in on that otherwise I’m like a butterfly going here and there collecting all the “pretty” things I have no idea what to do with them!
Great job on bathroom it is a very welcoming and relaxing spot you want to visit. Thanks for the reminders and some new tips.

You're so lucky to have these stores in your area. I live in NYC and we have Goodwill bins but 90 % of customers go there to buy for resale and the experience going there is traumatic 😢, they push, scream, take things from your hands😢, literary savage "war". Regular Goodwill for example has very expensive prices and then we have Salvation army with very damage or old clothes and some almost nothing home essentials or decor😢.

I shop at my local charity thrift stores all the time - their prices are the best. One benefits Visiting Nurses and the other I shop at benefits disabled adults veterans, homeless and the mentally ill. They also have 12 low-income housing properties in my county. The best part of shopping at these 2 stores is once a month they deeply discount the entire store - 50% off of everything including clothing, which is already 99 cents each!

Favorites in my area are the Samaritan House (they help children with supplies for school and during the summer give food (good food) to the children that relied on free breakfast and lunch during the school year. They help in a lot of areas. My other favorite is Potter's House they do a lot for the community and children. One thing they do is have different colored tags per week. They have new and normal prices(basically the first two weeks the product is there), then have a tag that 25% off, one that is 50%, one is 50 cents ( then sometimes the 50% goes to 75% and the 50 cent to 25 cents. I've got items marked $20 for .25. This one is probably my favorite.

I am on a very strict budget so I try and recycle and reuse what I can. I try and shop thrift stores, mom and pop stores or ones that donate a percentage to charities. Most of our good wills where I live are over priced so I don't shop there and we also don't have places like good will bargain bins that I have noticed. Everything you have gotten and styled looks so nice. Wish my house would look that nice, but most of the time looks like people were raised in a barn. Lol

When I was a teenager, my aunt, sister and I would shop at Goodwill and we loved it but it wasn't trendy in the early 90s so we would say we're going to the GW Boutique and oh I got this at the GW Boutique - we made that name up to protect our amazing thrift store treasures, now it's real a GW Boutique! So awesome. Would love to visit one.
