James Horner’s moving score, the Enterprise coming home, the Earth in the background and that magnificent and giant Space Dock made this one of the most memorable scenes not only in the film but the entire franchise.

I love how they all stand to respect the damaged Enterprise.

One thing about Star Trek III that I feel is overlooked is just how much of an expansive look at the world of Star Trek we are given - and for the very first time.

The movie introduced four new designs that would become standards in the franchise: spacedock, the Excelsior-class, the Obirth-class, and the Klingon bird of prey. We also see quite a bit of the world beyond just the confines of the Enterprise, herself.

2:08 My favorite part of the movie, everyone is just in shock looking at the battle damage.

That's one of the many things about the original and only Star Trek in my opinion, they turn parking a spaceship into a friggin epic event! Something no other variation of Star Trek can ever duplicate.

Something that I think modern audiences missed...This is the flagship of the fleet coming home. They all want to see her return, and are in collective awe and dismay at her majesty and her battle damage.

This scene always gave me goosebumps. I love how it shows the enterprise, which is a massive ship, and then pans to spacedock which is even more massive. That fact that it just looks so convincing is amazing. I know its said too often, but modern effects rarely achieve this level of authenticity. Too many moving parts and lighting effects make modern space effects unconvincing.

In the original cut of Star Trek II there was a line of dialogue as Kirk and Company were approaching Enterprise where it was revealed that Sulu was scheduled to take command of the Excelsior. This was deleted from the final cut, but retained in the novelization of the film.

Happy Birthday, James Horner! You’re music, especially this piece, captures the scene perfectly. I was really fortune to have seen/heard this in the theater and wish the soundtrack would be released on iTunes. At least an expanded soundtrack was released on CD.

Kirk: "This entire crew seems on the verge of obsessive behavior regarding Mr. Spock."

Chekov: "Well for-fucking-give me. Its only the computer telling me about the break in!"

This was amazing to see in the theater in 1984, the audience audibly gasped when Kirk revealed McCoy.

3:15 I bet that breaking the high tech 23rd century yellow tape that Chekov put across the door is what alerted security to the intruder.

pause 1:18, that ship on the left that is docked is actually a nod to what the original design for the refit Enterprise was gonna look like. That same design is reused and tweaked decades later on Discovery for the ship of the same name.

That opening shot is 10 times as fantastic when you see it in cinema.

The look on everyone's faces when they see the battle damage done to the Enterprise. I'm guessing they haven't seen anything like it before!

I'm liking the higher frametrate. I wouldn't mind watching the whole film like this.

Notice the T-handle on Sulu's console for the "throttle" is missing? You can see the two bolt holes where it's supposed to go.

1:17, you can see part of the original design for Excelsior at the left side of the frame.

McCoy didn't blink at all...just noticed that!

Always found it funny, that the security alert shows the enterprise before refit.
