No death will ever hit harder than the death of Star Trek's first leading lady. R.I.P. NCC-1701.

" My God Bones what have I done?"
" What you had to do... what you always do. Turn death into a fighting chance to live."

2:12 Scotty's reaction as Kirk utters "Destruct sequence". He'd always been attached to the Enterprise 1701 and was clearly a blow to the heart, realising they were about to kill the old girl.

Christopher Lloyd did a superb job and then played Doc Brown the following year. Wow lol.

me when the bridge module blows up "it ain't that bad it can be repaired."
two seconds later the saucer blows up. "Shit!"

2:25 the music doesn't start until Scotty starts entering his code. That's when you knew this was really going down. That ship was Scotty's girl.

That practical effect at 5:12 of the saucer shattering and all of the debris and what looks like pulverized powder is something CGI still doesn't compare to after all of these years.

When I saw this in theater on opening weekend, there was a huge collective gasp and a lot of "Oh nooo"s in the audience. I was shocked and mortified.

I was some age under 10 when I first saw this movie and seeing the Enterprise getting destroyed was painful for me, because it went against my expectations seeing an iconic flagship getting put to death. It was like watching a friend die in front of me, but the scene worked, because that “friend” went down fighting and was victorious at the same time.

I love how the music gets louder after every code

"I swear to you we're not finished yet." I adore that line delivery. So full of determination and anger.

All these years later, it still hurts.

Such a powerful and moving scene.

You could tell Kirk struggled to get the last two parts of the final code out of his lips.

I remember this and when it was in the theater.. When the enterprise was burning up there was grown men starting to cry.. Watching the enterprise burn there wasn't a dry eye and the entire theater..😢

The way he grabs Bones’ arm at 0:57 while he tries to comfort him. It’s like he’s saying “I’m back. We can mourn later. It’s time to retaliate and finish this.” As much as I love Picard, Kirk was my first, and will always be, my captain.

It was sad to see the Enterprise self destruct, but in some small way. It was like a soldier sacrificing his or her life to save her fellow soldiers. She paid the ultimate price to protect her crew.

5:14 - The saddest scene in TOS history.

Scotty to Picard: Here's to the Enterprise and the Stargazer, old girlfriends we'll never meet again.

One youtube comment described the decent of the enterprise just after she blew was like a Viking funeral. I couldn't help but agree.
