Is Steam Deck Really Worth It in 2023?

I am finally ready to give my review of the Steamdeck after owning it for 9 months - I'll go through my personal experience of owning and using it heavily. The Good, the bad, the ugly. The Steamdeck truth about owning it for almost a year, and if I think you should buy one, or maybe wait for a Steam Deck 2.

Thanks for watching! What are your thoughts on the Steam Deck so far?

If you use Decky plugins, the Vibrant Deck plugin helps make the colors pop just a bit more on the Steam Deck screen!

My wife surprised me with one for Valentine's day! I didn't have the funds for a desktop gaming PC so this actually covers me for any gaming I could want to do from anywhere and it's versatility is crazy I'm playing with emulation and impressed and how easy it is to set up

I just got a steam deck and I can say that I’m enjoying it more and more as I get used to the ergonomics. I can’t think of any controller or hardware that felt good right away, and it’s taken a little while for my hands to find the most comfortable playing arrangement. Now that controlling everything is more muscle memory than conscious effort, the gaming is becoming much more enjoyable. The real treat will be using it on the road. I travel a lot for work and though the steam deck may seem big compared to a Nintendo switch, it’s tiny compared to lugging my whole gaming laptop around. Add in its vast number of capabilities for its small form factor and the 399 price is a real bargain (its only $50 more than the switch Oled and a vastly superior machine in my opinion). Storage isn’t a big issue considering how cheap ssd cards are getting, so it’s a breeze to add more

Blows my mind you don't have more subs, this was very well put together!

Totally worth it- sold my ps5 and series x . No need for them anymore . Steam Deck is fantastic. Pair it up with a pair of Nreal Air AR Glasses and you have a huge portable screen too ...

My only concern was the screen I'm the guy who saves up enough to play at max settings on oled, bla bla bla. And let me tell you I love my SD it looks beautiful, if the next iteration is just a better screen l'll skip it. Given the size, it's perfect I only want to be able to play in 10 seconds, no waiting for turning on pcs, consoles just immediate gaming (adult life). And this one delivers. Great review.

I'm looking into getting this device mainly for emulation and less graphically intense steam games (like project zomboid, cult of the lamb, slime rancher 2, etc). I already have a high-end gaming desktop, nintendo switch, and gaming laptop, and I was hoping that this would fit into my already existing steam ecosystem as well. Ultimately though, this thing (from what I can tell) is an emulation powerhouse. I don't think that the battery life is a huge deal because if you already have a gaming desktop, just use that for the AAA/more graphically intensive games. As far as the screen size, who really cares? The original nintendo switch screen size is smaller than this one and people LOVED/LOVE the original nintendo switch when it first released. So all in all, definitely think this is a great device!

I'm looking forward to seeing what a Steam Deck 2 could look like. I'm not holding my breath though on it happening any time soon though. I've put off getting an Index because I assume that an Index 2 is coming soon... and yet... here we are with no Index 2 yet.

Thanks for the review. Just bought the 512gb in the sale. I’m a truck driver and have long chunks of my work just chilling in the cab. Running out of things to watch on my tablet, let’s go steam deck😍 Only problem I might face is finding myself in areas with no internet. Hope it is still usable offline. Thanks again for the review.

I ordered a Steam Deck a couple of days ago and I'm not sure how much I'm going to use it because I work from home and don't travel a lot, but I'm curious as to what they are like to own and use.

I prefer using a keyboard and mouse for most games that I play, and I'm terrible with a controller for any games where your aim has to be accurate, but I'm sure it's good for driving games and it may be ok for Lego style games too.

I've been thinking about buying the steam deck, I've got a gaming pc already but since i have a motorcycle and want to travel more, or just anywhere, i don't feel like lugging a PC around, this would seem like an amazing investment! ill prob be going for the 600+ version though

Thx for the review bro.
I was pondering getting Steam Deck myself during 2023 march spring sale where they gave -10% discount on all variants.
However, as you mentioned - if you already have a gaming PC and on top of that a gaming laptop (which I both do), then there is less point to getting the Steam Deck 1.0 IMO.
Was about to buy the most expensive one with anti-glare glass, but as much as I would love to play and tinker with it, it would just sit in the drawer/on the shelf too often for me.
However, I am very interested in getting Steam Deck 2.0 once it comes out in the future - just imagine what going from Zen 2 to Zen 3/4 + better GPU performance will do then.
Version 1.0 is already amazing for being able to play RDR2 on decent settings and framerates.
Amazing times for hardware indeed.

Suggeestion for anyone intrested to buy a Steam deck and not needing/wanting the matte display of the top ende version: get the 64GB version and a 1-2TB SSD.
Especially if you do so right at the start it's an easy upgrade and saves a bit of Money (getting a 1TB MicroSD helps as well)
I got my Deck right after the first 2TB SSDs got out and upgraded it right away, changed the backplate, replaced the thermal compound on the chip with some better stuff and got a 1TB SD.
Enough space for all the games anyone might want to play on the go when theres no internet available and slightly better cooling. Best way to play games on the go right now ^^
