If money is no issue then I’d go with the ROG Ally X. If you’re on a strict budget, I’d go with the Steam Deck.

One point of advandage for the steam deck is that you won't be scammed out of your warranty if you ever need it.

I genuinely prefer the steam deck mostly because windows can be an absolute hassle with tons of issues because of a bad update and valve’s steamOS genuinely works flawlessly and has so much customisation (via a plugin known as decky loader) so yeah as the pinned comment says, if you’re on a tight budget get a steam deck. If you’re willing to deal with windows issues and wanna play games that have a stricter anti-cheat then get the ASUS ROG ally (although as mentioned in the vid it costs almost twice as much)

The Steam Deck has shown me that a trackpad is a necessity for handheld pc gaming and wii emulation. So in my opinion, no way in hell I would buy an ROG Ally. Why spend 800 bucks on a console that you are required to bring an external mouse with you to use when there are competitors that are 100-400 dollars cheaper with a built-in trackpad? Sure the extra performance is nice but most games don't need that extra performance. It's a no brainer to me

As somebody who doesn’t have a whole lotta money, the steam deck is better cuz I might be able to afford it

a big thing I don't hear many talk about from the price perspective: even if you can afford the Ally X, it being twice the price makes it a lot bigger of a risk to take outside. And with Asus's reputation for warranty and repairs, it doesn't look great either. Having a handheld you're too worried to bring around with you is very limiting to me.

The day things like the ROG Ally start copying the same control layout and features of the Steam Deck, including the dual haptic-feedback touchpads, and start having the SteamOS already pre-installed: Then, and only then, I'm gonna be considering them as an alternative for the Steam Deck.

One has track pads, one doesnt. Enough said.

The Steam Deck experience for me has been just great and the trackpads are awesome. It helped me play a lot of my older games / indie titles to reduce my pile of shame and it has enough power to play most modern games with at least 30fps (which isn't that bad on a small screen).

Most important: I completely trust Valve - they accomplished something really great and showed some love for us nerds. I'm already completely sold for Steam Deck 2 ❤

Also own both. Honestly the only thing the Steam Deck OLED has over the Ally X is the OLED screen. Everything else (battery, performance, versatility) the Ally X wins. Just installed Bazzite on the Ally X and I basically have a more powerful steam deck without the OLED screen.

"There's zero way to play EA scam games on the Steam Deck" That sounds like a feature.

The ROG Ally X is also much more available in various countries, in fact in Australia it's usually our *only* Steam Deck-like option

The trackpads on SteamDeck are essential for me as it allows me to play older PC games or games that heavily uses mouse input like The Sims or Europa Universalis on the go. I do have dualboot so if there's any anticheat games then I can just boot into Windows so win win. Although it's worth mentioning that the Ally X's performance sure would be nice 😄

I just got Unreal Tournament ‘99 working on my steam deck. The OLED screen is breathtakingly beautiful. I’m in gamer heaven.

Can't wait for RyzenOS to be released. It's been recorded to run all games available on linux and windows.

I'd go with the steam deck, at least until the official version of steam os launches foe the ally x. And even then i'm not sure because the trackpads are such a huge advantage.
