A thing that really help me to improve my muscle ups was to start working on my triceps (after mastering push ups and dips). Triceps floor extentions and deep triceps extentions on bar were very helpful.

One of the most important things at the start is to get some forward-->backward momentum going before pulling up, this will make it easier to get the bar to your belly button.

If you can already make a pullup towards your belly button without alot of momentum (like shown in the video) the muscle up is pretty much down already, simple due to explosiveness... Not a tip/exercise a beginner can do. With the momentum, you will be able to do muscle ups even though your pullup is not that explosive.

when I do a straight bar dip I find a bar that I can grab on to and touch the ground at the sametime. I do a jumping style muscle up then get into position for straight bar dips.
