Let’s talk about the top ways to boost your absorption of vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential to support a healthy body, but most people are low in vitamin D.

The RDAs for vitamin D are 600 IU. These RDAs are based on preventing bone loss. However, vitamin D has many other functions that go way beyond bone health.

I believe the average person should have around 10,000 IU of vitamin D daily. This could be a good maintenance dose, but if you have certain conditions, you may need more.

It’s nearly impossible to get the amount of vitamin D you need from your diet alone. You have to be largely dependent on the sun for vitamin D.

Factors that can negatively affect vitamin D absorption:
• Low stomach pH
• Gut inflammation
• Kidney problems
• Liver problems
• Bile deficiency
• Insulin resistance
• Polymorphism
• Obesity
• Gastric bypass surgery
• Low diversity of microbes
• High stress
• A low-fat diet
• Certain medications
• Inability to swallow large capsules
• Darker skin types
• Age
• Living further from the equator
• The winter months
• Low magnesium, zinc, or K2
• Not spending enough time outdoors

The best ways to boost vitamin D:
1. Get one hour of sun per day
2. Take vitamin D with fat or a meal that contains enough magnesium and zinc
3. Do keto and intermittent fasting
4. Consume more fatty fish or cod liver oil
5. Take vitamin D in liquid form
6. Consume more vitamin D (if a genetic factor is preventing absorption)
7. Increase your bile

0:48 Dr. Berg recommends 10, 000 IU of vitamin D everyday (maintenance dosage)
1:57 If you're worried about toxicity levels of vitamin D, just consume 2.5 liters of fluid everyday and don't take calcium supplements in any large amounts,
3:15 Barriers to vitamin D absorbtion: Stomach pH, gut inflammation, kidney problems, liver problems, if you're not making bile (it's absolutely essential for absorbing vitamin D), insulin resistance, diabetes, obesity, gastric bypass surgery means less ability for absorbing vitamin D, low diversity in microbiom, stress, low fat/cholesterol diet, medication like statins, dark skin color, age, your location on the planet, seasons,
5:28 Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin, so it's a good idea to take it with some oil or fat or a meal,
5:37 Dr. Berg's solution for those who can't swallow vitamin D capsules (link in the description),
6:45 Vitamin D absorption is also dependent on your magnesium level and your zinc level,
6:54 Anytime you take Vitamin D3, you always want to take vitamin K2 with it, because they work together, vitamin K2 keeps the calcium out of the joints and arteries,
7:07 Be outside in the sun enough,
7:19 How to BOOST your vitamin D levels:
#1 Get 1 hour of sun per day,
#2 Take vitamin D with fat or a meal,
#3 Keto and intermittent fasting,
#4 Consume more fatty fish - cod liver oil,
#5 Take vitamin D in a liquid form,
#6 If genetic factor = just take more,
#7 Increase bile,

During my week stay in the Caribbean last year. I'd walk every morning and my vitamin D tracker would read 18, 000 IUs from the sun. I felt and looked radiant the whole week

The Sun provides most of my vitamin D. Getting proper amount of sunlight also promotes a good night sleep and keeps me on a decent circadian cycle.

I work outside and average 10000 iu a day of D for about 10 years. My last test was 3 months ago and it was 35 which barely cracks low normal. Everyone is different and we use it at different rates. Get tested and you will know what to do instead of guessing.

Hey Dr. Eric Berg, I recently started taking around 7000 IU vitamin D3 daily and I swear it’s helping with the inflammation I’ve been having in my forearms and wrist for like two years.
It started helping in like a week.

💊 If you're taking enough vitamin d and your numbers STILL aren't budging, ask to run both forms of vitamin d (25 and 1, 25 hydroxy). You'll likely find that all your d is being converted to the active form, 1, 25-hydroxy, and that is making your 25 form appear low. That was the case for me- I was confused why I could never get my blood levels above 49. Now I take enough to get my 1-25 to the upper part of its range and I don't sweat the 25-hydroxy number.

Thank you Dr Berg for your commitment and dedication for putting vital health information out there for the general public. Vit D is often referred to as the sunshine vitamin because the sun is one of the best sources of this nutrient. Terraces are indeed the best part of any home. It is that one place where you feel the rain and the sun.

Norwegian Cod Liver Oil every day is NOT a supplement - It's a human food. Your grand parents were right - A teaspoon a day of CLO is ultra healthy.

Did you say as you age the skin gets THICKER? After being in health care all my adult life, 67 years, that’s contrary to what I have known and experienced.

Just had my vitamin D checked, my doctor said it was a little low.. so he recommended taking 2, 000 IU a day... I asked him if I can up it to 4, 000 and he said okay. It seems I truly should be taking much more than what he recommended.

Dr. Berg I think it'd be really helpful if you guys could make a playlist purely consisting of vitamins and things like tht and either 1. How to get it from food or 2. The importance of it
