Never never ever do this with a plank . Always leave some space, baseboards will cover

The general idea of using this technique to scribe along an irregular edge is still fairly solid in my opinion. Not perfect, but decent enough...especially for those above who want a little space between the wall and the piece.

It’s not right because it needs a gap. However if it DIDNT need a gap… it’s still not right… what did you cut it with? A woodpecker?

If only there were some type of board to install at the base of the wall that would cover the gap and still allow for the recommended 1/4” expansion gap between the laminent and the wall 🤔

You need a an expansion gab as per manufacturers specs but the scribing trick does work

I've seen some pointless hacks, but this is up there with the best of them.

As others have commented, failing to leave the gaps at the edges of LVP will cause the flooring to buckle. I wondered how much vinyl really expands; some quick googling and calcs showed most rooms need at least the 1/4 inch space. If the floor might ever be outside the recommended range of 65 to 80F (like in a prolonged power outage) 1/4 inch would be inadequate for a large floor.

I’ll bet that really looks good when you put the trim on there it’s got more waves in it than the Atlantic

Nice technique. Should mention that you meed to measure off the opposite wall. As you dont want to be finishing with a 1cm cut which might jappen if you go blind. Work out a nice distance on each side of the flooring

as soon as you put pressure on it you will knock every single row after it out of line, it is why you use spacing kickers on your first row

The begining sides is what needs the gap the ending could be flushed against the wall the floor with have all the other quarter inch space around the room to expand

It needs space anyways it doesn’t have to be completely close. It needs air going in and out. Plus you can close it with the skirt boarding

If your wall is that crooked, how is the baseboard ever going to be flush to the wall?

Let's say you had a crazy out of true wall that the baseboard couldn't cover the gap and you needed to do this. Besides leaving the gap, wait until you have a few rows of flooring down. If you're off even a little bit in having the first row square to the room, you could have a gap too big for the baseboards to cover.

He could caulk that little gap after that free cut. That would really be the icing on the cake 👌🏻

There should be 5/16” space between the wall and the flooring. That will buckle when it expands.

I think it's a great idea but after you cut it you put spacers and that way when you start putting your other tiles it'd be easier and they don't separate
