I'm going to be honest here, I don't have any friends since graduating high school, so I'm really awkward when talking to people real life and online. Of course I tried to make friends before but it doesn't work out, and I think it was all because of my awkwardness. My life right now is just work, eat, play games, and sleep. I'm the worst...

You should’ve also mentioned the flip side: better to be alone than have ungrateful and awful friends. Learned that lately.

The power of friendship really does exists. It helped completely change my life the last couple of years. I would not be the same without them.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that being alone doesn't necessarily mean feeling lonely. If you truly enjoy being alone then you won't feel lonely. Hence, it should have NO negative effect on your health as well as lifespan.

Friendship is very important to me. I missed out on making friends when I was in elementary -high school back when people were still children and had less responsibilities. I'd get bullied by the other kids and I'd isolate myself further. Long story short. Now I can interact with people on a nominal level. The few people I consider my real friends, sometimes it's hard to stay in touch or make plans with them when they or I'm so busy as we're older and have more responsibilities. But I just have to remind myself to be patient, true friendships don't happen overnight.

So I'm nuerodivergent, diagnosed with Aspergers when I was younger, but that term has kind of dissolved into just being on the Autism Spectrum. I have the worst time meeting people and building relationships easily.

I love art, specifically pens and paint
I love oddities, like things you have to go out of your way to find in stores (preserved bugs, crystals, and local handmade artwork that may not be so traditional)
I also love deep, meaningful conversations. I like small talk but I prefer talking about deeper subjects as well. I'm not really a pop culture person, so I don't watch normal everyday TV or watch the news. So I'm usually at a disconnect with people.

My name is Dakota. Nice to meet you!

When you're close to 30s with kids, making friends can be a little challenging. Specially maintaining it.

It is scientifically proven that the power of friendship exists

In my case, my friends genuinely saved my life. Last year, with it being 5 years since my mum committed suicide, me dropping out of my college course, and struggling to find a job with looming homelessness due to my supported lodging coming to an end, I hit my lowest point mentally and nearly gave up several times, but every time I reached that point, someone would message in our Discord server asking to meet up. They kept me going long enough to find a place to live with a friend who keeps me sane and a job that keeps me active and pays well enough to support me, and I'm actually starting to do decently mentally even at a time of the year I tend to struggle.

I can't have friends...
I've had friends, they were great, but they grew and I didn't.
I pretended it wasn't the case for a long time, but I understand now that any form of relationship with another human being is impossible for me, nor would it be enjoyable for either of us.
So I keep to myself, and I've become physically healthier for it, contrary to what most people say.
The stress of trying to maintain friendships, the guilt and shame of my failures and being someone I wasn't was doing more damage than any benefit a friend could ever have fixed.

Having friends is just something I’ve never been able to do. I’ve never had a good friend, so maybe I’ll die when I’m 33.

What a great video!! Also, be smart about the company that you pick as well, bc it can also work in the opposite if people are easily influenced by the wrong people. So yes, all of this is true, but also be careful about the company you keep as well. Just remember this old wise saying (one of many): "Birds of a feather flock together. "

I've never had true friends, ever. All I have are classmates and coworkers and relatives. I'm 39 and still alive. I talked to one of my classmates and it seemed like we had pretty similar outcomes in life, even though he had a close-knit group of friends. And one classmate I had who had close friendships ended his life at 38...

1:25 What they don't tell you is that being underprivileged also has an impact on your relationships. Socially, people will be weary of you, and then there's the stress of keeping up with friends, like for example if you make friends with richer people who have plenty of expendable income and want to go places and then get mad at you for not coming but you can't because you literally live paycheck to paycheck. And then there's age.. the older you get the harder it is to make new friends and maintain them. If friends are a required part of life then underprivileged people are further pushed into less privilege, just like most things in life. In this case having friends is a privilege, and privilege is not something everyone has.
