How to learn LIGHTING for FILM

In this video, we discussing how to learn lighting for film through one of my favorite techniques, reverse engineering. This is the art of taking a scene and breaking it down to understand how a cinematographer might have lit the shot. Watch me in real-time take scenes from the famous movie Oppenheimer and break down how Hoyt Van Hoytema might have shaped his lighting for the movie. Obviously, the best way to learn how to light for film is through actually doing it, but sometimes it's good to take a step back and look at how the pros do it.

Thank you for being here! It means a lot that you take time out of your day to watch my videos. I hope I can help you in your film career even in just a small way. if you ever need help with anything please don't hesitate to reach out and ask.

Great video Josh! I don't know which tablet you are using but some of them if you hold your pencil still after drawing the arrow it makes it into a perfect arrow. Could be handy for the next video if it works.
