My desk lamp is too bright. I followed your tips and had the lamp face upward to the wall. The whole office is warm and comfortably bright. Thanks for sharing this helpful tips!

Thanks m8. My desk and floor lamp have made my office into an interrogation room at night. The ambient lighting trick will help keep me energized and comfortable!

According to studies, uplighting helps to increase productivity, so I would consider that for an office or study area

Great stuff! I was looking for a way to make my newly natural-light-less office space more comfortable, and nothing else on YouTube seems to just answer that simple question. You did so perfectly in under a minute. Many thanks!!! 😊

ohhh. reflected lighting reminds me of my universiry library. there was a large atrium that let in light and bounched off almsot all of the floors (eight of them to br exact) and the lighting at nighttime/areas that weren't hit by sunlight was very diffuse or reflected off the surfaces. i never thought of my library as a very well designed space until now!

It truly is the best! Have been lighting my office and living room with ceiling reflected lighting after working at an office with very well designed ultra diffused commercial hanging lights that bounce all the light up.

Can you show how you reflected the light? Many thanks for all your videos they’re amazing and incredibly helpful.

I point my task lighting at the wall/ceiling and it's perfect lol

I figured that out while I was coloring a huge, intricate poster in Alaska over a six year span. It was about halfway through that, I had a lamp without a shade near a white wall... It was positioned just right, and cast exactly the right light. I've used that trick several times since then for other things, too. It is excellent lighting for playing board or card games in a living room with friends.

I have purchased a LED bulb dimmable by app, to use with non-dimmer-switch site lighting. Less than 10dollars for 2.
It comes with both warm and cold color temperature filaments so it's full adjustable, without being annoyingly harsh coloured RGB LEDs.

In my personal experience, reflected light off the wall in front of you is even harsher than task lighting because it's pointed at your face.

As you showed, reflecting off the ceiling is the way to go - probably why they sold so many "dish on a man sized pole" lamps before we started using LEDs for everything.

That means that not all task lighting systems are ideal for reflected light.

Note for me
(Only direct and original spotlight for instrument or professional works.)

When i go to the shed i have a hand spotlight thats like a soda can with a pistol trigger om it, you can set it straight up and it turns into a reflector light at night. Those hand spotlights are on a different level than regular flashlights, everyone should have at least one for seeing all the way down the street

Yes! I point my task lamp at the wall in front of my desk or use a torchère floor lamp with an up light onto the ceiling in my office.

I stumbled onto this accidentally when I installed an LED strip behind my monitor, the backlight could get so bright that it could effectively light up my room and I could ajust the color to between warm and cool to my prefrence. The softer reflected light made my workspace much more pleasant at night than the overhead booblight.

i accidentally discovered soft lighting a while back (i just point my desk lamp at a corner of my ceiling) and i really love it
