Marjan Chanakoski "Always learning more from you in 5mins"
I learn more in the first 0:36 seconds! There are 7 images at this time mark, each worth studying. With each image I try to understand his whole lighting setup. Truly professional.

There are a lot of youtube photographers, tons of self proclaimed pro photographers, then you have Karl Taylor and you understand the difference. Simply put if the others are pro, then he is like the master lol. Love his videos, always so much information, and presented in a professional manner .

Well idk. I've never shot anything with speedlites and I've signed up to learn more about it as it seemed exactly like the info I needed. It's been the most crazy study ride in a week I've ever had in my whole life, and I can frikkin guarantee this man knows what he's talking about. I've learned so much in just a little amount of time, which is exactly what I needed to make a photosession happen with no studio and no risks associated with going somewhere to take pics. The most expensive thing I've purchased this week was the profoto stripbox to make a rim lit portrait and yeah it performs great if you know what to expect. It can also be absolutely useless if you use it wrong. Everything else is just a cheap chinese stuff but you CAN make it work for you. I also have white walls at home so I can either use them or cover them up. Man you can just use a piece of paper as a reflector or diffuser if you know the basics and it'll improve or ruin your pic. You CAN jump from zero to hero if you just learn the basics and start experimenting. Hell you can do a good portrait with just one single speedlite if you know how to! Thanks Karl! I needed this knowledge asap, and your website and courses are like a ... idk, it's the most efficiently compressed knowledge you need, yet Karl makes those tutorials with no cuts at all, he just does it in one shot, sometimes even live, and everything he says there is relevant and important yet easy to understand even for a complete homegrown newbie with some 12 year old camera and a pair of speedlites(got the second one just recently while planning for the session).
He doesn't teach you how to take this or that pic the best way, it's his way he shows there. He teaches you on how to use this or that tool and the tricks associated with using these tools. The rest is up to you. This is exactly what I needed to rocketstart to the artificial light photography galaxy.
If you're out of time, this IS the course you want! After that just go and experiment and you'll learn on the way.

great info as always, when i know what type of light i want or what look i want i find that its easy to then get the image/look i want, The hard part is having an object or idea then trying to think what type of light i want or what will be best.

Again, a superb full of information video for photography lovers. Thanks a lot Karl BUT wish you will now come out of STUDIO LIGHTING and will discuss NATURAL LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY too, there are very few videos on that and yours is desperately needed, thanks again.

as usual, my mantra is: camera 5%, lens 15%, the rest is light and how is used/controlled.

Great summary as always. Here's a somewhat related topic on which I'd love to hear your thoughts in a future video: I always try to make photos that are well lit and well designed, but what I often hear -- especially from social media coordinators -- is "We don't want the pictures to look too slick or fancy because we are going for authenticity." So what goes into making photos of a high technical standard that still look "real" or even maybe a little grungy?

There's no substitute for spending hours in the studio playing around with a simple setup with different modifiers and gaining knowledge and confidence. I wish I could get more time in a studio. I get a certain amount of experience then over time, forget what I've learned.

Watching the clips one after another and learning with one Speedlight and softbox. Still it's getting better by days. I've been using huge mirrors to use it as a fill light as I lack for light sources. You could try too who got budget problems.
