Also enable 4x MSAA and Force GPU rendering.
The 4x will improve graphics but heats up your phone a tad more and lowers fps and battery life, and the GPU rendering will make gaming smoother generally increasing fps.

I've has so many ppl correct me! Let me explain for the 52169th time, The 4xMSAA Makes the GPU work harder, making the fps in games lower BUT it can process more graphics at a time making the graphics overall BETTER. The Force GPU rendering Forces the GPU to work at all times, making the phone faster at rendering graphics INCREASING the fps. But you want a faster game with less lag, then you can disable 4xMSAA but graphics wise enable both :)

Another edit:
To make your even phone faster and cooler you can also check "quit background apps"(txt may vary) which will force your phone to exit any apps even if you're multitasking. But you can't multitask and your phone may bug as it relies on some apps.

It's so important to disable Hardware overlays which makes the GPU do every single animation which frees up to CPU and make sure the GPU is doing 2D Hardware also this will speed up your phone 30-plus percent along with the animations off.

I am a developer a long time and I am simply going to explain you why this is not very good for slow android phones. Basically, this is an animation google implemented for 2 reasons. First to make the android system look a bit more fancy & beatiful and second, If an android phone is slow it will do this animation while its processing the opening of the app. Of course this is not a big problem, but if you dont have a really good android phone you will wait some time before the app opens with no change on your phone screen. This option is only usefull for android phones with a lot of ram and powerfull cpu.
