Are you are asking yourself 'Will my laptop work without a battery?'

This video shows proof that a laptop will work without a battery as I take my (completely functional) laptop apart, disconnect the battery, and show that it will still power on without issue as long as the AC adapter is plugged in.

If you are having issues with your current battery, you are looking to replace your battery, or just want to run your laptop like a desktop then this video shows that it is possible.

If this video helped you, consider supporting the channel directly!

00:00 - Intro and quick answer
00:47 - How a laptop works without a battery
03:13 - Removing the battery from my laptop for proof

Although laptops are designed to run with batteries, Windows treats the battery and the AC adapter as two completely separate devices and can function with the battery disabled or even completely uninstalled from the laptop.

Oh wow thank you so much Sir for this wonderful video! I’m a freelance digital artist and my laptop battery was swollen so I’m still waiting for replacement. I came across this video and it’s a total life saver! Thank you! I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to work for the next days or weeks having to wait for replacement. Plus this is a great tip considering I work a lot on the computer which could help minimize battery issues in the future.

Thank you so much. I was afraid that my battery will blow up as it is swollen at the moment. I appreciate you.

I usually take out my battery and just use the adapter only when am at home, if I go traveling I will insert the battery and use my laptop when am on an airplane. I mean other than that. If you’re just using the laptop at home there really is no need to use it unless you’re traveling. But using it without the battery won’t harm your laptop in anyway I’ve been using it that way for years on my old laptops and never had any issues. More convenient.

Even when I "disable" my battery on the device manager, I can still use the laptop without plugging AC. All it does is just disappear from the task bar. It does not disable it really.

Nice video, it helps a lot of people. Actually for those who don't know, when your laptop plugin in ac and you are playing games or any work you do from your laptop, you will notice that the performance of your laptop is getting maximize and which is good...

Brilliant. My laptop won't come on with a dead battery, so all I have to do is...turn it on.

This was very helpful! My batter has swollen up (from my misuse) and this gave me the knowledge I needed to not try to keep it in the machine while waiting for a replacement to arrive. Thanks!

My battery had actually swelled, so getting it out was critical. Thanks for this post, as it worked great for me and I am still able to use my computer without the batter!

So it is practically the same to disable the battery driver than removing the battery from the laptop? I mean, if turning off the battery driver means that the laptop doesn't recognize the battery and can only work with the AC plugged in, it would be the same than removing the battery in practical terms, wouldn't it?

This is the only video that provided information confirming that I just needed to disable the driver and UNPLUG THE BATTERY CABLE without removing anything else -- to be able to use my Ideapad 330S without battery. Thank you for the complete information which I badly needed.

I pulled the battery on my old Alienware from 2014 to clean out the fan and when I plugged the battery back in it smoked like crazy and melted the connection since it’s so old I really don’t want to put any money into it I’ve already got a new $65 screen on the way but I think I’m just going to use it plugged in 24/7, sooo my question is, will this be harmful to the laptop if I use it long term with no battery ?

This method is not valid. I disabled the battery driver while my laptop wasn't connected to the AC adapter. The battery icon disappeared, but my laptop continued operating. I also turned my laptop off and on again and booted normally. The battery LED is still on. Laptop: HP Envy 13-ah0001nv
