To make it clear one more time, I LOVE the RX 6700 XT. It’s some of the best value you can find on the used market right now. But if you want to play new, graphically demanding games in 1440p, there are better options.

The 5700 XT was once considered a 1440p capable card. Even the 1080 Ti was once advertised as the "first 4K60" card.

For those unfamiliar with the nomenclature: Most techies rate a GPU based upon their performance with current (within the past year) AAA releases. Keep in mind that devs recently have a predilection towards "graphical showcases" - purely aesthetic visuals which tend to be quite demanding for GPUs.

To label a GPU as 1440p is to assure potential buyers that they can reliably play these titles at High (vs Ultra, Medium, or Low) and get an appropriate frame rate (varies by title; higher for twitch/FPS, etc).

Older titles are (generally) less-demanding graphically, and one can anticipate every 3-5 years of age to bump the playability for that title. A 1080p GPU can deliver solid 1080p performance with a newer title like Black Ops 6, but can also reliably deliver 1440p performance with an older title like Overwatch or Modern Warfare. (And potentially handle an even older title like Minecraft in 4K.)

Bro sometimes even my 4070 makes me feel like it's a 1080p card rather than 1440p. According to stalker 2 recommend requirements. PC gaming is just fucked at this point 💀

It IS a 1440p card, you just shouldn't fall victim to the "ultra settings" scam. It plays great at high settings which is what you should be playing at

6750xt is my 1440p card. Medium to Max settings in most games, in more demanding games I just use quality upscaling

I use the rx 6750xt in 1440p… don’t yell at me, it played games like Warhammer darktide, generation zero, and terratech worlds at around 100fps on high settings presets.

I use mine for 1080p. I bought it because will be able to perform in 1080p for years

Im glad fort can run with it. I’m getting the 6700Xt in a few weeks and im getting a 1080p monitor to go with it. But I was considering 1440p. Now im not. Thanks for the reassurance

The 6700 XT absolutely is a 1440p card but I also agree its days are numbered. The culprit is Unreal Engine. Demanding games in UE5 can only hit Medium in 1440p on the 6700XT. Everything else can still hit 1440p high.

Reminds me of my own rig which is rocking a good ole GTX1080. At the time, like 8-9 years ago, it was running most stuff at ultra on 1440p usually at 60fps+. Games with their poor optimization these days, no chance. On a side note, I did get my hands on a 5080 (not scalped), looking forward to rebuilding when it arrives!

I play Cyberpunk 2077 with optimized ultra settings with xess Quality at 4k. The 6700XT is a very good card

I mean with fsr, this tier of card can easily play high quality games in 1440p

I still think the distinction between “1080p”, “1440p” and “4K” cards is a fundamentally flawed distinction because of its vagueness. Yes a RTX 4070 is a great card for 1440p, but it’d also be spectacular for 4K in modern games if I was willing to lower my graphics settings, install performance mods, or just choose not to play unoptimized garbage.

6700XT has aged like fine wine. It was definitely a 1440p card at the time of it's release, but is now starting to show it's age when it comes to new releases.
