If you go with AM5 you get a much better upgrade path and if you have a Radeon Card you can use AMD SAM and Dynamic Caching which is to be considered here

For 1440p I use an i7 860 and a GTX 750ti. Absolutely destroys Space Cadet Pinball and Solitaire in 1440p and can even play Minesweeper at 4K medium settings

even the i9 13th gen cant catch up with that 7800x3D let alone the i7, the guy asked gaming!!! GAMING!! nothing on the planet at the moment beats that r7....

But half the i7's cores are e cores which cant be taken advantage of in gaming, the 7800x3d has triple the l3 cache, has a much better upgrade path with am5 and also has half the maximum tdp making it also more efficient. Unless you really need a productivity cpu (which the comment doesnt it only says gaming) then the r7 7800x3d is the best choice.

Games run on a limited number of cores. The size of the L3 cache is a much bigger factor in that context.
