Honestly, if your playing more fps/esports focused games, 1440p shouldn't really affect performance too much, just get a 1440p 240hz monitor and be happy.

For me as long as I can play in 60FPS i am happy, and for really heavy story based sometimes even 30 fps is enough for me

In my experience, 1440p doesn't even reduce fps that much compared to 1080p.

It also depends on your monitor size, like I would never need a phone or tablet higher than 1080p because my eyes wouldn’t see the difference anyways

I’d say:
-24” - 1080p
24-32” - 1440p
32+” - 4k

it depends on the way you would like to game on your PC the most, if you're a mid-ranged budget gamer a higher refresh 1080p would be the sweet spot
