Because we used Real Salt which is not iodized, for decades, and while raising our children, I've used seaweed every day for many decades. We kept kelp granules on the table and everyone had a sprinkle every meal. Maine Coast kelp... 1/4 tsp has over 200% rda iodine. I started using spirulina in 1979 and used it through all my pregnancies. Kids would beg for spirulina banana protein shakes that I kept on hand to head off nausea. Used spirulina to color maple sugar frosting for grass on birthday cakes. Kids used to compete for the Kombu in the brown rice. I still use kelp every day as well as several sheets of nori in soups.

I am loving kelp noodles by Sea Tangle. If you toss 'em in lemon juice and little baking soda it makes them way closer to pasta texture. In a stir fry they're almost identical to glass noodles. Only 6 grams of net carbs for an entire bag (339 grams/12 oz) with 164.4 mcg of iodine! Here in Texas I've seen 'em in H-E-B Plus

Yep. I eat 1/2 a nori sushi sheet after each meal. It also turns white fat into brown fat that your body can use for energy

You have to look at the ingredient when buying seaweed from the Asian grocery stores. If you are looking for the sheets that are typically roasted and salted, most of them have canola or vegetable listed as the type of oil that was used in the roasting process.

There are as many types of "seaweed" as there are plants that grow on the land. I have been eating "konbu" (kon-boo) a Japanese word, western language labels it as laminaria algae, it's very thick and tough, but its one of the highest concentration of available iodine and cheaper than bottled supplements! I have been eating konbu since a child, here in Hawaii, but for the last two (2) years almost daily for its health benefits. Eating a little konbu is like eating 10 plastic packs of Costco's nori at one time without all that added soy oil it has all over it, for having just a few slivers of Konbu.

Konbu by itself is tough to eat and has a weird taste, so to get young boys to eat this, Japan has a dish with a sweeten teriyaki chunk of roast pork wrapped with konbu. As Konbu is great for thyroid hormone synthesis and brain development - smart ladies to trick us boys to eat this stuff.

Here is my trick: I get cut-up the long strips of dried Konbu into very small slivers, place it into an "Instant Pot" with an inch and a half of water along with a five (5) tablespoons of lakanto monk fruit. Cook for 50 minutes and then power off and let sit until cooled. Then it taste so much better!! The boiled water is then used as a soup base for a large amount of Japanese dishes as well as Ramin and in Hawaii we have Saimin.

Thank you Thomas, I learned about Konbu's (pronounced kon-boo) health values years ago from you.

Try this--- mashed cauliflower with canned coconut milk, white pepper, pink Himalayan salt, big dose of turmeric powder, crushed sesame flavor sea weed snack, grass fed butter

Try running a Geiger counter over your seaweed; you’ll be very surprised how high the radiation is likely to be.
Be careful where your seaweed comes from. It loves to absorb radioactive materials from the ocean.

Toasted seaweed is super yummy! I love it. But not all types are high in iodine, so research is necessary.

I make soup with dried wakame, chicken broth, miso, and Bonito flakes. It speeds up my digestion unbelievably fast often going undigested.

I have struggled with acid reflux disease for years. More than 20 years, I even had stomach surgery endoscopic fundiplication. And still I can hardly lay down at night even while on proton pump inhibitors. I eat healthy. I filter my water and only drink water. I have tried more "remedies" than I can count. But the first night that I ate just a quarter of a teaspoon of kelp my stomach did a happy dance. I was almost too happy to sleep. Instead of feeling bad my stomach felt good. On top of that I slept like a baby. Now I"m in the process of giving up the PPI's. Fingers crossed that the kelp will continue to work.

I already do eat seaweed and kelp almost every day! Not necessarily because of health benefits, just because it’s delicious

When and how would be the best time to take this? Pre-workout? Before a meal on an empty stomach? With or after a meal?

Fabulous. Coincidentally, just before this video popped up I had eaten 2 seaweed nori sheets. I should be making sushi out of them but I like them as super low cal snacks

Thanks Thomas. I'll increase my seaweed from once every six months, to once a week. Maybe eventually I'll manage to make it to daily.

Great info! But how much should we eat optimally?

Will it work the same way through supplemental form? And would spirulina work?
