I honestly wish this kind of much simpler sushi were more available here in Canada, because I would love to be able to go out and have sushi without having to dedicate myself to the super complex and notably expensive rolls

edit to mention how so many people are absurdly angry at me for either not knowing where to get this or to make it myself lmao I promise you with over 70 comments someone has told me already

The sushi rice in Japan is also well seasoned and the grains of rice are visible, not smushed into glue

Also do not judge the soy sauce and wasabi in Japan.

“Don’t compare it to what you had in that past but instead look at it as it’s own unique thing”

This quote applies to many things

The best kind of sushi is the kind that's in my mouth. Simple or complicated, raw or fried, Americanized or authentic, don't care, get in my tummy 🤤

My mom is Japanese and she is always offended when we get sushi... "This is not real sushi!!" 😂

the thing that makes the sushi tastes exquisite is that they season the rice throughly in restaurants, sometimes they add Japanese mayo which tastes heavenly. combine that with seaweed, the fish, and an avocado. that's why it's super popular

One of those moments when you really gotta go
"Listen, man, food is food. And if the food is fooding, then I'll consume."

Sushi in America is labeled as American style sushi in my country and just “Sushi” for the ones Japanese style ones. XD

Not my Aussie ass finding out that there’s a complex way to making sushi 💀

What’s in the us and other countries are mostly fusion sushi. It’s like saying chicken alfredo is a pasta. You know, the real people won’t acknowledge it but like they won’t kill you for liking it

Granted I have only had sushi in the US but I would miss the "rainbow role" a lot since it is essentially a few different roles all in one, without all the crazy stuff they put on other special roles, and is great for the variety of fish it comes with...it is like a chirashi bowl, one of my favorite dishes, but in a role.

Yeah, I like to make my own stuff and it usually ends up being rice, seaweed and some fish. Nothing beats simplicity :)

Food is almost never the same outside of it’s country. Remember this and you’ll almost never be disappointed when you try it in its original form!

I used to make Sushi rolls daily for myself and i tried making many types of Sushi with different combinations, i still like the simple cucumber Salmon roll more than the others with any souce to dip in it(though it's a matter of taste better is according to the taster)

I love that you're helping us shift our collective awareness! Very cool! Also, can we Americans all high five those involved with the evolution that is now American Sushi?! I love sushi, and I bet I would appreciate the simplicity of traditional sushi as comfort food. Can we find these packaged yummies somewhere in the US?

When I go to the more pricy sushi restaurants I always go simpler because they know what they’re doing and buy really tasty fish. For cheaper or middle range sushi I check out the specialty rolls because it’s fun to see what they’ve come up with.
