Original sin is the single greatest example of gaslighting ever imagined by humanity.

Child in the Iron Age: asks why bad things happen
Adult in the Iron Age: tells a fable about children disobeying a parent
Adult in the 21st Century: insists that the fable is a historical account

Yahweh gets the credit for anything good.
Humans get the blame for anything bad.

This dude is a perfect example of the way irrational belief ruins rational thought. Love your thinking TMM, thanks for sharing.

Original sin is about an all powerful and loving god deliberately playing a rigged game against 2 innocent humans and then punishing them for all eternity for being exactly how he intended them to be.

Good lord, this dude is insufferably incoherent. Hes damn near mumbling, and DEFINITELY making shit up.

My biggest complaint with Original Sin is that a later passage goes "The inequity of the father shall not be passed unto the child", which runs directly counter to how Original Sin operates. Ironically, a lot of Christians are more than willing to blame children for their parent's faults ("The apple doesn't fall far from the tree" mentality).

Moral of the story: Don't put snakes in your backyard where your innocent children whose conscience is underdeveloped are playing.

Even when I was a kid and very steeped in my religious background, original sin sounded like BS to me. Why do I have to pay because an ancestor I’ve never met screwed up?

Telling people that they are fundamentally intrinsically broken, & have been so from birth (& then magically providing a 'solution' to a problem that never existed that only requires a lifetime of dedication & adherence) is nothing more than a *scam* to get people to accept the belief. It's cult-like behaviour.

Original sin is one of the *worst* ideas to come out of Christian doctrine.

The doctrine of “original sin” advocates for blaming and punishing God’s creation for the “crime” of being the way that the all powerful, all knowing God deliberately and knowingly created it to be.

I've always wondered why original sin is heritable.

Like, why is that a rule at all?

Imagine this scenario instead:
- Adam and Eve eat the fruit, and are kicked out of the garden.
- Later, Eve gives birth to a beautiful baby boy, the couple names him Cain.
- Suddenly, an angel swoops out of the sky, and gives the following message: "Baby Cain does not carry the blemish of his parents sin, for god is just and wise, and will not allow this perversity to grow any larger. Adam, Eve, your sins are your own; your son is innocent and blameless. He shall be brought back to paradise forevermore. And we've installed a fence around that damn tree."
- Cain is then swept away back to paradise.

Like, why couldn't that happen? Why does Cain have to share in his parent's sin at all? Why is that a rule?

Who made that a rule? Who designed the way sin would work? Who chose to create a system where the children would suffer for the acts of the parents, despite those children not even existing at the time?

It's almost like this is a stupid system put into place by a stupid or malicious creator.

Why is there a gap between expectation and reality? Oh gee, wow, such a deep and meaningful question. -_-

I would dare say that no one on the planet has the godly kind of love that would see a parent punish their children and their children's children and their children's children and so on for all eternity for the first mistake their children ever committed.

Original sin, or as I call it, "Inherited Sin" and the fact that it doesn't make sense, was one of the last straws that led me out of Christianity.

This guy keeps saying that I have an obligation to resolve inconsistencies in Christian theology. If I wanted to be Christian, I suppose. However, , there is nothing about Christianity that appeals to either my intellect or my moral sensibilities. His entire talk is so suffused with ethnocentrism that he supposes that his way of thinking defines thinking itself.
