Absolutely great - no frills, no nonsense, just a brilliant step by step guide. Thank you.

For the MacBook 2021, with the M1 Pro chips, instead of Command + R, you need to shutdown the computer. After the computer is completely turned off, press and hold the power button until it goes into the recovery mode.

Appreciate the concise instructional tone of this video, as well as the dry-style banter—just what I need when erasing a computer! Thank you!

Two years after this was posted I needed this info in order to wipe my 2015 MBP. I'm very impressed with this video. The directions were clear, concise, and super easy to follow. The process worked exactly as demonstrated in the video. Thank you!

Thank you! I want to donate my old MacBook but was having trouble doing a factory reset. You walked me through it step by step. Now it's ready to go to its new user.

WARNING! At 3:37 after formatting the hard drive DO NOT shut down the computer! Return to the MacOS Utilities window and follow the rest of the steps. After restarting the computer it causes an error making it impossible to re-install Mac OS. You will just get an error saying the install on the server has been damaged. Once this happened I had to recover my drive from a time machine back up and start all over again. This was not made clear in the video. Don't make the same mistake I made.

Apple is so complicated, it should be an option to factory reset in the settings.

Holding Power button is the new way to enter Recovery Menu for M1 macs.

Command + R does nothing on mine after multiple tries holding for the full 60 seconds. Any options?

Thank you. I watched many vids but it was very confusing or they speak super fast and I cannot follow all the steps... or simply they dont work. With this video I was able to erase. Everything is well explained and clear. Most of all... you speak slowing and clearly. THANKS ! Much appreciated.

Hi! thanks for the video! got a question: I also use bootcamp. When restarting, will the erase and install option delete the bootcamp partition? I defiantly want to keep the windows untouched...
Thanks in advance!

For some reason when I hold down Command R after booting I get a 🚫 symbol and then the iMac shuts off. Holding down Command Option R doesn't do anything so I can't use Internet recovery mode either. Any ideas?

Best tutorial I found - I had to log out of my Mac before shutdown and log in after Command R to get it to work.
