As a developer myself, the low adoption rate of ray tracing is due to the fact that the current/first generation of RTX isn't capable of pushing the rays that we want to really impress with real time ray tracing. Titles that do use it right now do so only in limited/superfluous aspects, like providing *only* ray traced reflections on an otherwise completely non-ray traced game. It's mostly been something AAAs can tack on to ride on the RTX marketing buzz, but that will change.

Ray traced global illumination is much computationally harder to do without noise, and I know myself and others have been waiting until we're "deeper" into the technology time line so that we can add these sorts of features and have them actually usable by most people before it will be worth the effort.

With the 3000 series, I plan on getting a 3070 and finally doing some "real" ray tracing development, hopefully a game designed from the bottom up to at least incorporate high quality real time ray traced GI. That's my main concern because it has the biggest effect on the overall look of environments (watching light flood into a room through a window is really beautiful). Ray traced reflections are nice, but local reflections have filled that spot very well in the past couple years, so it hasn't been a major selling point for me yet as a developer.

So within the next 5 years, at least from small developers like me, expect to see more "from the ground up" ray traced games that were developed with ray tracing in mind as a core feature now that it will become affordable AND powerful (and engines like Unity are starting to get the bugs worked out in their DXR solutions).

Here I was waiting for the 3000-serie to come out so I could "steal" a 2070/2080 card. Oh boy Im skipping the entire 2000 lineup and heads straight to 3070
