Nvidia RTX 30 Series Graphics Cards Have A BIG Problem

A lot of PC gamers and hardware enthusiasts were looking forward to the release of Nvidia’s RTX 4080 graphics card. Many had a mindset that they would just wait for next gen graphics cards instead of overpaying for last gen cards. Once Nvidia announced the RTX 4080 at an obscenely high prices, a lot of people decided they would just find a deal on a previous gen RTX 30 series card like a 3080 or 3090 and call it a day. However, this has been driving the demand for those previous gen cards quite a lot and now they’re starting to go back up in price. Previously you could find a 3080 Ti for well below MSRP, but now it seems like they’re sitting at or are above MSRP when it comes to pricing. Which isn’t’ good at all, I would not be paying this much for 2 years old graphics cards, just seems like terrible value to me. Perhaps this was Nvidia’s plan all along, upsell to gamers to the more expensive 4090 and or clear out stock for the 30 series. The alternative is to buy AMD, as you can find GPUs like the 6800XT or 6700XT at great prices, much lower than their Nvidia counterparts. However, a lot of people seem to be attached to Nvidia’s mindshare. This is a terrible situation overall and, in my opinion, will greatly leave a negative impact on the market.

I was super mad at the way Nvidia treated gamers during the mining boom, but was willing to give them a chance to sell me a 3060ti below msrp. Well, the tricks and speculation they've been doing after the mining crash is so disgusting that I wouldn't buy a new or used Nvidia card ever again. Even when black friday hit and I seen a 3060ti for slightly below MSRP, I completely ignored that and went and bought an AMD 6750xt for cheaper than a 3060. Nvidia can go take a flying leap, I'll never buy one again - i hope they go bankrupt.

Don't be fooled by the "low stock" of 30 series cards. Nvidia is still sitting on a huge pile of them and just letting them trickle out, the same way they are with the 4090. It's almost like they have a deal with scalpers at this point.

The prices and shortage is artificially created by nvidia themselves. They presented this strategy to shareholders, a month or two back

My prediction is AMD is going to sell a lot of cards... Nvidia told their shareholders they would limit supply of 3000 cards to keep prices up. They lost EVGA one of their best board partners, then they turned their 4070 which would have been the price to performance leader into a overpriced 4080 not to mention the power cables melting on 4090's.

I've always been team blue and green but both Intel and Nvidia seem determined to turn me into an AMD customer.

Still sitting on a GTX1080 that I got for $699 in 2016. The fact that the xx80 cards are now double that is insane to me. Since I lucked out and got a PS5 around launch, I've mostly been playing newer games there, and at this point it feels like I've gotten good value out of that investment. I simply refuse to pay over $1K for a single component in my PC. Just, no.

I think me and my 1080 ti will remain best buds for the next 3-5 years. The GPU market has just gotten gross and at the same time a lot of AAA games, so no reason for me to upgrade anytime soon.

Compared to the 4090, the 4080 should have 11, 000 to 13, 000 CUDA cores. With just 9728 cores, the 4080 16Gb is really a 70 Ti class card, yet Nvidia is charging almost as much as the 4090. I think the 4090 is overpriced and not good value - it should have been 300-400 €\$ less. It's pure greed by Jensen and Co. and it's going to bite them in the ass when they get to the lower tier cards because they're going to have to keep pushing the specs downwards to balance out the full line-up. By the time we see a 4060 it will barely be better than a 3060, might even be worse in some cases.

Edit: The 4080 should probably have had 20Gb of VRAM, leaving 16Gb for the 4070 and 12Gb for the 4060. Instead the 4060 has only 8Gb - just 2Gb more than the 1060 had 6 years ago!!

Additionally, Nvidia launched the 4090 first and then when they were out of stock they launched the exorbitantly overpriced 4080. So there will be many who wanted a 4090 but couldn’t get their hands on it that’ll settle for the 4080. Nvidia’s delayed release of 4080 was definitely strategic in that way. Sure they may be pointing folks to the 4090 with the high price of the 4080, but even moreso they knew they’d be able to screw people that missed the boat on the 4090 and still wanted a better GPU. Because the 4080 is still a much better GPU than a 3090ti. So it’s still an upgrade for literally anyone who doesn’t have a 4090. But yeah, screw Nvidia

Just before the RTX 4090 launch, some people, including a tiny YouTube channel whose name I don't remember, predict this would happen. These were the days when almost every big to moderate size YouTube channel sang the song (or the clickbait?) "Don't buy an RTX 3000 series graphics card now, wait for the RTX 4000 series". At least you recognize the error in your prediction and I salute you for that. The other YouTubers, especially Classical Technology, who posted a video almost every day saying "don't buy an RTX 3000 series, don't buy!", whistle to the side as if they had nothing to do with it.

Nvidia has 30 series cards but they are slowly releasing them to keep a steady demand and keep prices high. We need rdna 3 to drop and bring prices down

These prices on rtx 4000 broke the Nvidia programming for me, I'm done! Hello Radeon!

Here I was expecting an actual problem with the 30 series cards instead of their prices

This wasn't my plan. 3060 already. No way I'll spend this much for so little gain. Aiming at the next generation AMD currently.
But I would expect a desire to unload before the 7900 came out. The last thing they want is people talking themselves into just a little bit more gets you a 4000 series or AMD.

Also to note, just because it says sold out doesn’t mean that item is in high demand. It could be the retailer just doesn’t get many shipped in. Personally I’ve seen some gpus get shipped in and there’s 1-3 of them a lot of the time

If I was just using my gpu for gaming then I'd buy an AMD. But, the 4090 and its raytracing abilities make it a must have for 3D modeling and animation rendering.

I bought a 3080ti a while back. The prices dropped later that week. I returned it and bought a 3090 for $200 less.
It's a great card.

I am so happy that I bought a new 3080ti when prices came down. Mostly because I don’t have to deal with this whole GPU crap anymore. I waited 2 years for a new card. Gaming on my rig in 2k on ultra will give me plenty of power for years to come and most of us gamers just don’t need the juice of a 40 series card. I can now sit back calmly and watch this madness from afar. Happy scalping 2023.

I saw this issue on eBay. I was looking for a RTX 3080 and they were selling for £500, a few days later it increased to £550 and now £600. I got a 3080ti for £800 brand new instead and now they go for £1000 brand new on eBay. This was only 2 weeks ago, so supply is drying up after 4080 price came out.

According to other trusted youtubers nvidia was planning to control the market prices and stocks to make sure the 30 cards prices doesn't go down. and from what we are seeing right now that plan is working really well
