I was in Tokyo decades ago up in a high rise when a quake hit. The building swayed and that was spooky enough. Remember, the Japanese architects take earthquakes into account and build accordingly. So why you see things shaking, that is a powerful quake indeed!

I have lived in Nonoichi, Ishikawa Prefecture, for 6 years between October 2011 and October 2017, and all this time I thought that the western coast was safer than the eastern coast because we never had an earthquake during that period of time. And now this! Let's pray for Japan. 🙏🏾🇯🇵🙏🏾🇯🇵🙏🏾🇯🇵🙏🏾

Was stationed at Misawa AB in the late 90's, and I can attest, earthquakes are no joke. Luckily, 🤞 the Japanese built the majority of the buildings and towers on the base, giving relief in quality and not hiring the lowest bidder! Sending love and prayers to Japan.

I’m in Japan on vacation. Imagine sitting in your bed on the fourteenth floor of a skyscraper and feeling the whole room start swaying like you were sitting in a windy tree. That was in Tokyo, but we were in Kanazawa four days ago. It’s really scary to think about.

My heart goes out to Japan. I used to live there for quite a few years. It's a very special place with very special people. It will be late, but tomorrow I will be having Toshikoshi Soba in honour of my most favourite country in the world! To hope and wish for the best possible outcomes in 2024.

It’s nice to see a people and culture that respects each other enough there’s no looting and other threats from fellow citizens. I feel so bad for all these folks in Japan and I hope they’ll be alright.

Sending love and sympathy from across the world's biggest pond, and ocean, from Los Angeles to those in Japan affected by the quake. 7.5 is very big. Hopefully people are safe. What a way to wake up to the new year. ❤

I live in Tokyo, Japan. I know calling people up or sending text messages to the people living in the area will make their phone battery run out, so I am restraining from contacting my friend living in the area. There has been multiple quakes in the area for several years but nobody expected this size quake happening and the tsunami.

Japan's expertise in earthquake preparation and response is truly impressive. Their advanced technology for infrastructure reinforcement and early warning systems play a crucial role in protecting lives and minimizing damage. Additionally, the country's extensive public education programs and regular disaster drills contribute to the remarkable resilience and calmness often displayed by citizens during earthquakes.
