There's a book called Heavy Weather Sailing. In it he describes waves apparently up to 180ft and there were big waves on the waves.
He said they were like mountains. He said it's hard for most to understand how a small craft could survive such monstrous and horrendous conditions, but that experience and skill can put your odds in your favour.

If you fall in the sea and it's like that, the best thing to do is to start drinking the water to reduce the sea level. Once it's low enough you can simply paddle to the shore.
