You forgot to mention the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004 in the Indian Ocean. It was one of the deadliest tsunamis on record killing over 200, 000 people. Some estimates are as high as 250, 000.

Far out to sea is where you want to meet a tsunami.

Its hard to imagine how powerful these waves are when looking at them. It isn't until you witness them pushing cars around like toys that you start to get an idea of their force.

That first wave doesn't necessarily look impressive... but considering the depth of water they are probably in... and how thick that wave was... that was an ENORMOUS amount of energy that just passed under that boat.
Hopefully they immediately got on the radio after that and told the shore to evacuate because there is a MOUNTAIN of water coming your way!

Always with the fake pics of towering crests hitting a beach which never happens in real life ever.

The tsunami is when the wave reaches mainland, not the wave itself, but only when it crashes. The wave in the ocea is called a tidal wave

The 2004 Boxing Day event in Thailand and Samoa were the very worst with over 250, 000 lives lost.

I live blocks away from the largest lake in Idaho and we have records of 2 tsunamis in the past 200 years so they don't just happen in Oceans.

I always remember the heartbreaking moment 2 horses were in a large field and were running from the tsunami and then got to the fence and couldn't escape... terribly sad...

BTW on #2: The volcanic eruption was so strong, it triggered tsunami advisories in Japan. The shockwave from the eruption was heard as far as Alaska. Yeah, almost 10, 000 km away.

Very interesting, three of these I didn’t know of. One clip that depicts the unimaginable size of a mega tsunami is from Omoe in Japan, it reached a height of 40, 5 meters.
The insane power of Mother Nature is second to none.

Love the fact that you showed clips that are less frequent here on YouTube.

On September 29, 2009, two large earthquakes struck midway between Samoa and American Samoa, a U.S. territory. The earthquakes generated tsunami waves of up to 22 meters (72 feet) that engulfed the shores, killing at least 192 people—149 in Samoa, 34 in American Samoa, and 9 in Niuatoputapu, Tonga.

The 2011 tsunami was additionally empowered by under water land slides. This is why many areas they were larger than anticipated

The Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha'apai was an above sea level volcano, it built a couple of small islands, during the eruption, part of the volcano fell into the ocean which was the cause of the tsunami, the sonic boom was heard in North America. The Hunga-Tonga volcano has now returned to being an underwater volcano. Thank you Geology Hub, YouTube channel, it's amazing what you can learn.
