Greek yoghurt and cottage cheese both spike my blood sugar.
High-fat cheese doesn't.

The problem with "low fat" dairy products is that, when they remove the fat, they add back in dry milk solids (i.e. lots of lactose) to help it not taste like chalk water. So, focusing on protein percentages by calories makes no sense. Fat has more calories gram for gram than carbs so these "low fat" abominations have lower calories and therefore a higher percentage of protein. But that doesn't mean the carbs went away.
I think Diet Doctor started including some info from Ted Naiman and that is not a bad thing but this is going completely off the rails. This is going back to the bad old days of fat phobia and CICO. THAT DIDN"T WORK.

This won't work. The higher protein the dairy product is by percentage, the lower it is in fat. If the dairy product is too low in fat it will feel like you just ate air, you'll be hungry very soon afterwards. Examples are non-fat cheese and 0% fat greek yogurt. Despite being very high in protein percentage, they will make you hungry as hell which will sabotage your weight loss in the long run. If you're going to eat them, please combine them with vegetables and a bit of olive oil, that would be superb. Your best choices for satiety are products that are low in lactose, high in protein, yet still have a good amount of fat in them. A good example would be something like parmesan cheese. Very nutritious, VERY high in protein, yet a good amount of fat in it. Things like mozzarella work too. They wont make you hungry but watch the amounts of course. Also it's good to mention that you are better off choosing goat or sheep dairy due to the quality of casein protein and better fatty acid profile. You're welcome : )

When did DietDoctor fall off the Keto bandwagon?

I guess I'll have to unsubscribe since I just find this kind of info very confusing. According to Dr. Fung, insulin drives weight gain, and carbs get the most insulin response, protein about half as much as carbs, and fat almost not at all. So, it makes sense to me to eat the high fat versions of everything, and I've lost 52 lbs. in 15 weeks. I just don't know how to reconcile these 2 points of view, so I'll just stick with what I know does work.

“A recent study of 1, 600 healthy middle-aged Swedish men, for example, found those who ate butter and drank full-fat milk were half as likely, over the 11-year study period, to become obese than those who went for skimmed milk and low-fat spreads.

“And a study of 18, 438 American women found those eating the highest amount of full-fat dairy were the least likely to gain a lot of weight over 11 years.”

Happy to see some of the push back in the comments section for this video. Protein and fats are both essential and should be consumed as part of your Whole Foods keto diet. Why this video is problematic is it’s based on the very narrow idea that consuming some extra calories in the form of fat is automatically bad for weight loss. Context is everything. If you are still thinking in terms of calorie control or calorie restriction as your means of weight loss you have completely regressed back to a flawed outdated paradigm. Protein and fat should be discussed as essential nutrients to fuel bodily functions. Within the context of a Whole Foods keto diet total calories are only relevant in how they effect the bodies hormonal response.

I'm Keto and enjoy eating a moderate amount of heavy cream, grass fed butter, and cheddar cheese, and I am actually still losing some weight. As he says it is not great for weight loss but you can still lose weight and enjoy these things.

Thanks! I'm glad to know the protein breakdowns. My most often two dairy products just happen to be plain Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. I'm very glad to know fat free plain Greek yogurt has the most protein for times I need it. Especially, when I don't need anymore fat for the meal or day, or when I'm adding fatty other things to my yogurt.

* don't overdo protein if you want to lose weight with keto because it will stall weight loss. If you want to lose weight focus on fats. It is very hard to overeat fat so don't worry too much about calories.

I am surprised you didn't address how many people are allergic or sensitive to dairy. It is delicious and nutritious, but not everyone can eat it.

Thank you, very interesting. I have to admit I can't drink milk as it affects me badly so cream is what I put in my coffee. OUCH! I can lose an enormous amount of weight in months and gain it right back again with the ream in my coffee in the same amount of time.

Dairy increases post prandial satiety and improves blood glucose. It might not be THE tool, but it could be a useful one.

I never saw the numbers you gave on any dairy food (here in France). The most I found was a yogurt with 11% protein and 4% lactose then there's the Skyr wave these years with 20 to 25% max.

This was very timely for me, thank you.
Would you talk soon about the effects of the various dairy products on insulin secretion?

Lower fat products have greater protein percentage and almost always have more carbohydrates. You cannot utterly IGNORE the carb count all of a sudden Like many others, non fat yoghurt and cottage cheese spike my blood sugar so I'm never going to eat them.

The problem in my area is the “organic “ cottage cheese has carrageenan. The brand Good Cultur does not.
