Does IQ really measure how smart you are? Is it possible to accurately assess intelligence through a test? And does who is setting the test, and why, make a difference?

I think intelligence has to do with how consciously aware you are and how you solve problems and of course using logic ..some people even when its infront of them will fly by their head

To be clear, I agree with the assertion that IQ tests do not measure intelligence. However, this video is garbage with regard to explaining with empirical evidence precisely why or how. Rather than giving hard evidence, of how IQ tests do not measure intelligence accurately, they give us a history lesson. The ONLY thing they remotely touch on about *the modern state of the situation*, is that, if you practice the tests, you get a higher IQ, indicating IQ to be merely a measurement of education, rather than intelligence.

It would be better, to bring up actual modern IQ tests, and show specifically where they fail to measure intelligence.

Here's the REAL definition of intelligence: can you figure out how to get what you want in life?

Neither of these individuals are psychologists. Gavin Evans is a journalist, and Bonnie Evans is an historian. At :48 she claims IQ is measured between 1 and 100. That is factually incorrect. This video is a poor explanation of what IQ measures. BBC Ideas, you can do better than this.

A test means nothing, a person can prove themselves to be intelligent by looking at the way they live their lives

You know it’s a good measure when you see a headline like this coming from the BBC.

Interesting video. Many intelligence experts would disagree with some of the views promulgated, though. IQ tests are good at measuring what we generally define as ‘intelligence’: there aren’t multiple intelligences, and different cognitive abilities all correlate with each other. People who do well at verbal reasoning will tend to do well at spatial reasoning, for example. And those same people will tend to perform better at elementary cognitive tasks (ECTs): tests of processing speed, reaction time and inspection time.
In other words, a single, general factor of intelligence (g) underlies performance in different cognitive domains. IQ isn’t a perfect measure of g, but it is the best measure we have. And general intelligence has been linked to numerous desirable outcomes: it’s the best predictor of job performance and occupational status/prestige, a very good predictor of educational achievement, and a good predictor of health and longevity. It’s also a mild predictor of income. And general intelligence predicts desirable life outcomes even at the very top of the intelligence distribution, as shown in the Study of Mathematically Precocious Youth, for instance.

If you think it makes sense, we must not only believe it ourselves, but also spread it to more people. Evangelism is not only the job of pastors, but also the responsibility of every believer. This is also the aspect that the Lord values most when ascending to the kingdom of heaven.
