-----------
✏️ Jordan Bernt Peterson is a Canadian professor of psychology, clinical psychologist, YouTube personality, and author. Born and raised in Alberta, Peterson obtained bachelor's degrees in political science and psychology from the University of Alberta and a PhD in clinical psychology from McGill University. After teaching and research at Harvard University, he returned to Canada in 1998 to permanently join the faculty of psychology at the University of Toronto. In 1999, he published his first book, Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief, which became the basis for many of his subsequent lectures. The book combined information from psychology, mythology, religion, literature, philosophy, and neuroscience to analyze systems of belief and meaning.
He put his clinical practice and teaching duties on hold by 2018, when he published his second book, 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos. This book became a bestseller in several countries. Throughout 2019 and 2020, Peterson's work was obstructed by health problems in the aftermath of a severe benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome. In 2021, he published his third book, Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life, and returned to active podcasting.

A high iq is not a free ticket to success and a low iq is not a death sentence it’s so much more nuanced some people have completely given up on themselves because they have a low iq

Lol, remebering when I said this in class and my teacher thought I was being offensive. I was confused

I have a low IQ, but I feel like it helps me, because I know that in order to compete with smart people I need to be humble, not just by devouring knowledge like a maniac, but constantly criticizing myself so I’m always getting better.

Was forced to take one in middle school to qualify for gifted program in one of the high schools that I was considering. Said program had 3 possible ways of entering. 1. Certain IQ which guarantees you will stay in the program no matter what
2. Middle school grades which get you in, but don’t guarantee you stay, and 3. Exemplary performance in your first year at high school in rather unproductive non advanced classes.

While the effect of IQ is clearly real, it can also give one a sense of arrogance and set you up for failure later on in life as one is never forced to work hard since classes remain easy until midway through university. I experienced this myself and received a rather nasty shock in an aerospace class in which I couldn’t just understand the material instantly after reading over the textbook once. Iq can be a double edged sword for sure.

Having higher IQ is like having a good bodybuilding genes. Like broad and thick bone structure. But it does not mean everything. You need enthusiasm, ambition and hard work as well.

Iq 147 here (verified by German mensa)
My story: child of immigrants, sister and brother never had an iq test but definitely highly intelligent. Brother is a CTO In artificial intelligence and sister speaks 7 languages working for the government
Then, there is me: former military, mma practitioner, got prices in school for art projects and studied economics UNTIL a life event happened: sadly I am very emotional and when my girlfriend cheated on me, my world broke down. Gave up my studies, fell in a deep hole and never realy got up because I lost my interest in participating in the world. I'm currently working half time as a call center agent and feel like an absolute loser especially in family gatherings when my brother and sister are there. I feel like the black sheep amongst lions with golden manes. Conclusion: your iq doesn't matter if you are an emotional train wreck

My father was an educational counselor in a prison. Sadly, he said about 90% were not capable of making it on the outside. He tried to help the smarter 10%. IQ absolutely matters in this tough society. JP is correct in stating liberals think any baby can do anything. Nope. I do think headstart programs can help.

As a guy with IQ 85, and employment in a public company, I think I am doing just fine. I earn decently and I have a lot of spare time to enjoy in my collection of classic music LP's and dvelve into the depths of Nitsche, Hegel, Jung and Dostoyevsky.

Having a higher IQ is a huge advantage, granted you don't have emotional or psychological hindrances like a personality disorder. And the advantage of IQ compounds as you get older too...more wealth, better health, better relationships 👏

I know lots of successful average IQ people, usually through a business that they worked hard on it and were thoughtful enough to save enough and invest it either in houses or just to improve their business.
The beauty of it, is that you don't have be a genius to have a descent life but it does take consistency and good habits.

He's very correct with these statements.. I have a low IQ, reality and life makes no sense, I can hear something 30 times and still not understand it, doing anything in life of any value seems almost impossible and things like Algebra seem impossible to grasp.

I've learned 3 things in this world are more important to "get ahead": 1. Common sense, 2. Humility and 3. Social Skills.

Well, big surprise.., from the very beginning of my educational career, I was struggling giving correct answers to questions in school. Abstract thought experiments or scenarios were not difficult for me, but the constant overthinking (perhaps partly due to my ADHD) really slowed me down and still does to this day. I'm still learning to adapt to this society and its patterns.

I've a high IQ and haven't accomplished much besides a Bachelor's Degree and sa Master's Degree. Maintaining a job is a complex adventure for me due to several trauma and mental conditions. So, IQ isn't everything.

I used to think that low iq was a huge hindrance of success but conciousness is more important. People can be taught and helped through the stages of development to become more skillful and mindful
