By sheer coincidence, I just finished organizing/backing my files last night after putting it off for 15 years with a master 2TB e-hd and 2 512 gb fd's for daily work. Add in no-install apps with a USB hub and EVERYTHING is off my pc as well as portable if needed.
The peace of mind feeling alone is phenomenal.

I was just looking into making a NAS from my old desktop, and I also happened to have lots of old HDDs too. I would love for you to show us how to make a NAS, your videos have been very informative and helpful Liron!

Great content, thanks. A NAS tutorial is a really good idea - either to a PC based system or with the NAS drive(s) attached to a Router would make it doubly useful.
Thanks, again.

Yup, I'm in the middle of transferring all my files to a NVMe external drive...ONLY ! I will NOT use any cloud for my personal or ANY data. But the external HDD I had everything on was starting to act up, so I figured this was a good a time as any to convert over to a NVMe SSD to avoid this loss. Well, I got half way through, and PPPFFFTTTT, down goes the external Hard Drive, no more interface, not recognized by Windows...damn it, ALMOST !

OK, well I have most of the personal files on another HDD, but they're probably not current. Great video, GREAT advice sir ! And the external USB-C case with a NVMe is SCREAMING fast now !!!

One thing about having USB backup drives plugged into your machine is that they should not be plugged in all the time. This is especially if you are simply copying files over to the drive. This is because if you get hit by ransomware and the backup drive is plugged in the contents of that drive could also be encrypted. External USB backup drives ideally should only be connected when you are doing a backup.

Now if you have multiple drives you always have the 2nd drive to use in the case of ransomware got the other drive. Depends on how frequently that data gets changed through normal use of the computer.

YES! Please make a video on TrueNAS to create a system that automatically backs up all the data from all the networked computers.
Also how about a video on a efficient home networking of the computer.
This is great Information, love it!

you don't need to just backup your data - you need to be able to restore it too. Make sure you can go thru the process of restoring it when you're in a state of panic and your knowledge of the backup process is no more that a vague memory.
(parallel = you need emergency exits in an airliner - you also need procedures and aids to help you find the exits in an emergency)

Great review. I use a SSD to backup with a Windows freeware application that compares files. Also works well and fast.

Love your videos Liron! Thanks so much for the advice. I just want to mention a practice that will make things a bit safer. Instead of logging in and using your PC as administrator, use a basic user account instead. You'll have to enter admin password for many things (ie every time you want to install new software or run certain processes), but you will be safer for it.

Hi Liron, it would be greatly appreciated if you could show us how to turn an old computer into a NAS device. In my case it would be a Windows 10 laptop. Thanks for all your help, cheers Gordon.
