When backup up, HDD or SSD? It does not really matter. An SSD will give you faster transfer speeds and an HDD will give generally give you more storage for a lower price... The choice is yours. The backup drive is NOT your primary drive and will have zero effect on boot times or speed of programs.

Restore From File History Backup: There are various ways. One is to connect your backup device. Navigate to Settings>Update & Security>More Options - Click "Restore files from a current backup". Either browse or use the search box to find and select what you want to restore to its original location and click the "Restore"

The intent of this video was to emphasize backing up your data on a regular basis, which most people don't do. Restoring data is easy, but first you must have a backup. If you don't have a backup and something goes wrong, you're most likely screwed!!!

Actually the feature from Win7 "backup&restore" is still available in the latest Windows version and also Aomei's tool is useful for system backup.

Thank you. Great work. Could I make a question? I started the back up on Windows 10. How I can check that it works? I don't know if I did the steps correctly.

Thanks for the handy info. When you want to look at the backed-up files on the hard drive, how will it displayed. I've done a backup but it is just showing a bunch of numbered files

This was great help. Can you choose to only keep a certain number of backups?

I have all my data backed up in OneDrive, Google Drive, 4 computers, 3 USB drives and a hard drive. That makes 10; so proud of it. I'm here to learn something new about backing up.

My size of backup is only 212MB. I have 316 GB of data on my computer. How could it be missing so much?

Hi. I don't get an option for Add drive. All I get is bac up files to ON Drive, Back up using File History or looking for an older Back up? I've even searched settings for Add Drive and says not found???

I'm assuming you can easily use this to replace backup software.. to some extent. I mean, i still need to make incremental backups to restore the HDD in case of a drive failure..

Hello, I have done exactly as you suggest on my desktop computer (using Windows 10, 64-bit) and though a File History folder was created in an external drive, the backed up folders and files are not even HALF of the ones actually existing in my computer!!! When I click Properties it even gives a false reading of 228 GB, which is actually the correct size of my saved stuff in the computer drive but definitely not the total size of the partial backup done... I would like so much to skip doing manual backup and have it done automatically and saved every hour by File History, because I am a writer and my texts evolve constantly, but I have been very disappointed with the results. Can you help?

Thank you for a great and very informative video! I've been researching for weeks now trying to find a solution to my needs and hope you can offer a suggestion to help. I know there are many others with the same question I have. I'm trying to find a way to backup my windows 10 SETTINGS so if my PC crashes or if I get a new PC I can transfer all the settings. I spent a consif6 amount of time setting them up and configuring windows 10 exactly the way I want it but can't figure out how to back that up. All backup options appear to be related to files but not actual "settings". I've read there is only 1 way to do this by having a microsoft account and enabling SYNC. I want to avoid anything to do with a microsoft account or syncing as microsoft has a lack of privacy. Suggestions are so appreciated!!!
