The parrot fish is legal to harvest in Hawaii, too. I've tried it. But the meat is somewhat bland, tough, and not as savory as those red fish snappers in the ice next to the parrot fish. If it was up to me the parrot fish would be left alone. One, it's not tasty to eat. Two, the parrot fish has been responsible for x millions of years creating all that beautiful white sand on numerous beaches throughout the Pacific. The parrot fish eat coral and excrete new, clean sand which washes up on to beaches, increasing it.

This is a beautiful adult Cetoscarus bicolor, a species of the parrotfish. They are named as parrotfish because of their fused dentition, just like the beak of a parrots. These fishes should be protected because they contribute to the maintenance of reefs.
