I guess you confirmed my theory that roasted soybean powder, or kinako, smells/tastes like peanut butter! I did a play in Japan a few years ago (I'm bilingual) & brought American candy for the cast/crew to share once. One of them was Reese's & this older man LOVED them. He initially thought the peanut butter part was kinako. Since then, whenever I bring kinako flavored snacks to America I've described them as tasting like peanut butter. I wasn't 100% confident that it's a good comparison though haha.

I love how every time there's a video of mochi being made, the chefs alternately shout "はい" and いいえ" as if they're having an active but unmoving dispute
