Welcome to 1RUN, Hagerty's newest experimental car-review show. In this show, veteran automotive journalist Jason Cammisa teams up with Ex-Hoonigan Internet personality Vin Anatra to review the newest and latest cars from the true enthusiast perspective.

In this episode, Jason and Vin take the wheel of the brand-new 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, the world's first electric hot-hatch. With its Giugiaro-inspired retro looks and 641-hp dual-motor powertrain, the first electric N product is fast and beautiful.

But is it something that true automotive enthusiasts could live with? Is it time for an electric hot-hatch? And more important, do Hyundais' gimmicky modes detract from the car's overall appeal?

What's perhaps most surprising is how the guys feel about N e-Shift, a sound- and g-force simulation of a traditional ICE powertrain. You'll have to watch to understand.

Make sure to stay tuned for Jason's trademark drifting and sliding around the famed Laguna Seca racetrack — with unfiltered observations and a couple laughs.

As Vin said, “They had to work a lot harder at making a performance enthusiast car than any other brand has to work.” They definitely over delivered.

If Jason Cammisa reviewed a phonebook from 1950, it would make for a great video. I never miss a chance to watch anything this guy does. Him reviewing cars is just icing on the cake for me.

Ioniq 5 owner here. That constant beeping is the lane departure warning set to alert. Whoever let you borrow it for the video, set it to alert you when you drift towards either side of the road. They wanted to make sure you stay inside the lanes.

As a grown ass man who still makes drifting rev limiter noises with my shopping trolley I can say fake noise can be cool af

And there will still be snobby people saying it's "still a Hyundai" and "Cost too much for a Hyundai". They have zero idea of the level of detail that Hyundai went to develop this car. It is an exellent attempt from the underdog. Bravo.

I love my Ioniq 5! Can’t imagine how much more this thing drives. Hyundai isn’t messing around

I would enjoy this format better if it had more elements of a traditional car review where we get to see the car, the interior, under the hood, etc.

I spoke to Albert Beerman at Goodwood about my i20N and this. He said I should love this as I love my little i20N

I still wish they made this at about 5/8 or 3/4 scale, but I'm glad they over-delivered on the "fun" quotient.

Now if they could take this car's skateboard and throw the NVision 74 body on top, it would be worth the money in my eyes.

I was not expecting to see Vin here, but it’s a welcome surprise.

I'll always watch Jason's work. I love his extensive knowledge and humor. I'm not sure I'm diggin the "podcast in a car" format.

This is kind of a strange crossover but extremely welcome. I have been watching Jason and Vin for years and years and they definitely have very strong (sometimes unpopular) opinions on cars, so its great to see them review something together! Cant wait for more of these to come!

This is the first EV that car people actually seem to want.

I want one really badly!

All automakers wanting to deliver fun EVs to enthusiasts must absolutely take notes. If we can improve battery technology to create lighter EVs (solid state battery technology, anyone?), and improve overall charging infrastructure, I bet the future of fun cars will be very bright.

LOL I love how much fun they’re having with all the silly modes. Also love how Hyundai is just allowing us to have fun with this car by simulating the sounds by pairing it with how an ICE car actually shifts and moves hahahaha. I feel like it’s more of an ICE simulator, and despite being gimmicky, looks so fun when you see these guys go at it.

Their reaction to the jet “shifting” was hilarious!

I love Jason and his reviews. I own a 2023 Elantra N and also love it. The UI in the Elantra N is barely okay for conveying the meanings and impacts of the settings changes, and managing your drive modes. Once you have your setups for regular driving, you barely have to touch it again. With all the extra functions and settings of the Ioniq 5 N Hyundai should provide a bluetooth connection to a PC or tablet that have better descriptions and/or videos. Then you can be the "guy with a laptop next to him" from all the movies.

Then Zack from The Smoking Tire mentioned sound and performance "packs". I know BMW would sue, but what if you could add the sound of an E30 M3, the same shift points, and torque curve. Then swap between "your cars". I would add my entire previous collection if possible. And some dream cars.

I wish this was one of the more professionally produced videos, especially for such a unique car.

As a gamer, gadget-head, IT pro who's ALSO a car enthusiast, it feels like this car was specifically designed for me.

Everyone else reviewing the new land cruiser this morning and as a person who still doesn't like EV's, this is where I want to be. Jason can be doing a video on a 2001 Caravan and I'll still watch (and love) the entire thing.
