I was born and i lived in Italy, and honestly racism is so common that it doesn't even bother me anymore. You see old woman holding tight on their bags when i go by, or people assuming I'm a drug dealer or stealer just because of my ethnicity. So yeah it's bad, but it's common.

i experienced racism in italy a couple of months ago in the supermarket from a couple of women in Sicily. They looked at me up and down in a snobby way and showed looks of disgust at me. It was so awful and they started saying awful things in italian. I almost lost my cool but luckily my fiance (who is italian) calmed me down. They were also so nosy and wondered why an italian man was with a non-italian woman. They asked about my job, where i am from etc....and why he was not with an italian....

my friend is a filipino and she visited a filipino girlfriend who's working in Italy (her girlfriend's skin complexion is fairer than him) . He said, discrimination is very common there. Even the kids were laughing at him.. and heard them call him Alien. When they also went to a store, he wasn't allowed to use a card. They only ask for cash. Also people are often laughing at them.. That friend of ours is a handsome man here in the Philippines.. but maybe because he doesn't have fair skin.. many have discriminated him. This is just so sad.. given that we, filipinos are very welcoming to other nationalities

You are definitely correct! Customer service is non existant in Italy!! I’ve never been treated so horribly in my life!

They said you are “poraccia” poor person.. they just assumed but not because of your race. I’m sorry, they were very rude. I’m Italian and I can say Italian service is really bad. Staff is usually lazy and not friendly

They weren't being racist...he was just being a plain asshole...he said "è una poraccia" which means that you're poor and you can't afford the lip liner, nothing about your race but he assumed you didn't understand Italian. By the way, some wjcon shops have really rude customer service (others have lovely girls).

Italians are known to be racist. My YT feed is filled with these types of stories from people who visited or have lived there.

Friend of mine had the exact same experience as you did in Italy. So sorry to hear you had to go through that.

When I think of Italy I think of it being full of people
like those who work in designer shops and high end retail that air of ‘ew look what the cat dragged in’ anytime they see someone who is in their eyes less then but totally suck up when it’s the reverse.

I don't think the statement is racist because he never said anything about your race. But he is judgemental thinking you can't afford it
